Amazing Things to do in California
California is known for its great weather and for being the home of Hollywood. If visiting the Hollywood sign is not high on your list of things to do, here are a few other amazing things that you can do in California instead.

Mono Lake
This lake is situated in Lee Vining and is almost 800 000 years old. This gets it a place in the list of the oldest surviving lakes on the North American continent. The most interesting developments in the lake have, however, been caused by people diverting the water away from the lake.
Because of this diversion, the lake’s surface dropped significantly, and the water was evaporating at a much higher rate. The combination of the drop in water level and the evaporation caused the saline levels to double.
It was something of an ecological disaster, but it did expose the beautiful tufa towers previously covered by the water. The area has since been protected and is providing valuable information for researchers and beautiful vistas for tourists.
The Antelope Valley Poppy Reserve
Situated in Lancaster, this is one of the most beautiful sites that you will see. During February to May, the desert comes alive with the biggest and most stunning display of poppies in California.
Civic Musical Road
This is a singing road and the only one of its kind in the United States. If you are visiting Lancaster, you should go and see it. When you drive over this stretch of road, it “sings” the end of the William Tell Overture by Rossini.
The Spillway at the Monticello Dam
This is a great place to visit, especially during the rainy season when the dam is full. You know the effect that you get when you pull the plug out of the tub? Imagine that but thousands of times bigger — the effect is magnificent and will give you pictures to die for.
The Wave Organ
Built in 1986, this unique piece of art is to be found in San Francisco. The movement of the water in the bay and twenty different lengths of pipe are what creates the music here. The sound is different depending on the tides, how still the ocean is and the weather.
The Chandelier Tree
Do you want to see something completely amazing? The huge redwoods in Leggett are amazing enough on their own. The Chandelier Tree enables you to get a whole new perspective on their size because there is a hole in it large enough to drive your car through.
La Brea Tar Pits
This is in Los Angeles and gives you an insight into what life would have been like in prehistoric times. You can see everything here from fossilized dinosaurs to ancient dragon flies that are quite amazingly intact. This is an amazing outing for kids and adults alike.
When it comes to exploring California, there are the standard tourist attractions that everyone visits, but there is a lot more also. Just take a trip and see for yourself.
