With Christmas fast approaching everyone is busy enjoying the festivities and we are all looking forward to our team Christmas lunch at The Jetty in Southampton on Thursday 21st December (the clinic will be closed that day from 12pm).

We are excited to be able to announce that Hobbs Neurological Clinic will be setting up a satellite clinic here at Therapeutics on a Monday. Amie Banks will be working here to complement our existing service with Ted Le Brocq. Please visit The Hobbs website for more information.

If you are looking for a Christmas Gift idea then don’t forget we sell vouchers for Sports Massage and Hot Stone Massage in the clinic.

May we take this opportunity to wish all our customers a very Merry Christmas and a happy and healthy 2018.

Pilates for Children - Fitness for the Future @ Therapeutics
The government recommends that all children and young people should engage in moderate to vigorous physical activity for at least 60 minutes and up to several hours a day.

Pilates differs from other forms of exercise by focusing on the deep, postural core muscles that support the spine and by concentrating on achieving the best body alignment when performing the movements. The Pilates program for kids and teens at Therapeutics has been designed bearing in mind the developmental stages and the challenges faced at each age.

Classes at Therapeutics are due to start after school in mid January run by Laura Panaech and Jane Shields. There will be eight classes of 45-minute duration in the term, with a break for half term. The classes will be small groups, with fun exercises using a variety of equipment. If your child/teen is interested in choosing Pilates as one of their physical activities please register your interest by emailing laura@enrichpilates.co.uk or contact@janeshields.co.uk

How to Beat SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder)
The lack of daylight at this time of year can be debilitating for many adults suffering from Seasonal Affective Disorder. But there are ways to combat the winter blues!
  • Recognise the problem; Decreased energy, fatigue, wanting to sleep more, craving sugar and carbs, slacking off work.
  • Get more light. Go out for a walk
  • Invest in a light box; these can be helpful on those dark winter days where natural sunlight is limited.
  • Wake up earlier, keep busy, spend time with people who make you happy!
  • Get moving; Exercise can work wonders so get out and walk in the daylight. We will be promoting our new list of exercise classes starting in 2018 on the website in January.
  • Improve your diet; Sugar and carbs may provide a temporary boost but they will lead to release of insulin, drops in blood sugar, more cravings, and eventually weight gain.
  • Meditate/be mindful
  • Talk to a professional
Staff Profile:  Laura Panaech, Physiotherapist & Pilates Instructor at Therapeutics
Laura has over 20 years of Physiotherapy experience in private healthcare in the UK and overseas. She strives to give her clients the best possible care and is committed to constantly updating her skills.

Laura completed her Masters in Musculoskeletal Studies in 2002 from the University of Western Australia. She joined the Therapeutics team in 2008 and has enjoyed treating clients with a wide range of sports injuries and aches and pains, across all ages.

Her special interest lies with neck, back and pelvis pain and complex and chronic pain patterns.  Over the last four years Laura has been trained in the Thoracic Ring Approach and Connect Therapy.  This framework includes an in-depth assessment of the entire body to find the underlying cause or drivers of the client’s pain and problems. For example, back pain in rowers could be driven by non-optimal seating of the hip joint(s) and weak gluteal muscles or longstanding Achilles pain could be driven by poor foot posture and lack of control in the upper back and ribs.

Rehabilitation is goal-centred and aimed at improving the quality of movement and function of specific tasks.  Laura sometimes uses Craniosacral Therapy techniques alongside the Physiotherapy.

Laura is also a fully certified APPI Pilates teacher and has been running Pilates classes for 10 years.  These past eighteen months she has been devoting more time to her Pilates business Enrich Pilates and has completed further training in Pilates and osteoporosis, stretching, scoliosis and children and young people. Her next vision is to bring Pilates concepts to kids and teens in a fun way that will hopefully give good postural and health forming habits for life, and help them to prevent injuries in the future.

In her spare time Laura loves to ride horses in the New Forest as well as encouraging her family to do sports together at the weekend.
