The late actress and socialite Zsa Zsa Gabor, who passed away Sunday at the age of 99, was known for many things — among them her thick Hungarian accent, numerous marriages and the single word “dahling.”
And while her career included many TV and film appearances (her IMDB page is quite the scroll), she’ll forever be remembered for her style and wit.
In no particular order, here are ten quotes from Gabor over the years that prove just what a treasure she was:
“I never hated a man enough to give him his diamonds back.”
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
“I believe that in life you should always take the serious things lightly and the light things seriously. This attitude of mine gets me into a lot of trouble.”
“I’m a marvelous housekeeper—every time I leave a man, I keep his house.”
“I tell you, in this world being a little crazy helps to keep you sane.”
“A girl must marry for love, and keep on marrying until she finds it.”
“I believe in large families. Every woman should have at least three husbands.”
“I don’t remember anybody’s name. Why do you think the ‘dahling’ thing started?”
“Macho does not prove mucho.”
“Parisian men make love all day and have no time to work; American men work all day and have no time for love.”
“When I’m alone, I can sleep crossways in bed without an argument.”

And from arguably Zsa Zsa’s best movie. Queen of Outer Space:
“I hate dat qveen!”

Zsa Zsa was an unforgetable character. Stylish. Funny. Uniqiue, Unapologetically herself. And who do we have to take her place? Chelsea Handler? Amy Schumer? Sarah Silverman? Yuch.

@Thad: That was one of the most memorable movies in regards to sic-fi trashy films ever made. I hope the cable stations AMC or TNT show a few of her movies back to back like they did Shelly Winters when she died.

@Paco: Unlike the Kardashians, the Gabor sisters actually had some talent. Sure, they appeared in a lot of trashy, forgettable fluff, but that says more about how Hollywood treated women like them in the 50s through the 70s than it does about them. Look more closely and you’ll see that both were adept comic actresses. They weren’t playing themselves, as many thought, they were playing cannily constructed and very distinct personas that kept them both in work for forty years. They also brought genuine glamour, style and wit to what they did. Now name one witty thing Kim Kardashian has ever said.

In that clip I included in my comment watch how Zsa Zsa stumbles twice while walking down the steps and try not to laugh too hard at the clearly dubbed voice that is singing instead of her (thank god). lol

Zsa Zsa was unflappable. She once appeared on a spoof of the Johnny Carson show with Howard Stern. At one point in the interview Howard suddenly pulls out a dildo and shows it to Zsa Zsa. “What do you think of this?” Without missing a beat Zsa Zsa replied, “It’s too small”.
Howard: “What do they call these in Hungarian?”
Zsa Zsa: “I don’t know. We don’t have those in Hungary. We don’t need those in Hungary.”

@Kieran: ROFL!!!

@Bob LaBlah: Adept doesn’t mean you can’t have a bad day occasionally. Zsa Zsa (and her sisters) made many many appearances in movies, film clips, newsreels etc. I won’t say they were the most talented actresses on earth, but they were much more than just pretty faces. How Eva kept a straight face on Green Acres saying and doing all the stupid things she had to do I’ll never know. I would have been laughing all the time!

@Paco: I wouldn’t piss on a Kardashian if they were on fire. The Gabor sisters at least contributed something to entertainment even if it was not always great. What have the Kardashian’s given us besides a sex tape.

i LOVE ZsaZsa. A truly beautiful and glamorous woman from the 1940’s thru 1990’s. i miss you already.

@Jaroslaw: Lord, how I LOVED me some Green Acres (Doris Ziffel was my favorite thanks to that hat she wore and her “twin sister” that I had for a neighbor down the road when I was a kid).
Its sad and seems rather ironic that the day LOGO started airing the reruns of Green Acres Zsa Zsa died.

@Jack Meoff: Speaking of the Kartrashians……..on second thought lets not.

I never really cared for her, but I did find her amusing. Either way, her brand of honest and open shamelessness was very refreshing.

Makes me realize how old I’m getting. She and Elizabeth Taylor were known for all their marriages when I was a child and at one time one was the other’s mother in law with all the cross marriages, during a Hilton marriage I think (need to Google that). I like when she said she had had alot of husbands and some of them weren’t hers!
