I am GUILTY big time. Guilty as charged.

I was listening to an interview on NPR the other day with Billy Bragg.

I don’t know him well but I know he is British and a singer that embraces protest.

He was very humble in many ways.

He said he was grateful to play in the U.S.

He wasn’t trying to push any edge.

He also said that he didn’t understand why politicians were so against National Health Care.

He also said he was astonished about Americans penchant for guns. As a Canadian who grew up with the benefit of one and the lack of the other so I can certainly agree with that.

Then he shared that he was removing cynicism from his music.

His comment about losing cynicism took control of my thoughts.

Yes I am cynical. I am guilty as charged.

I am known as a networker.

A lot of people know that.

Some people that I meet say let’s have a coffee and see how we can help each other.

I have rarely had help from their end. Reality that can easily turn into cynicism.

The people who ask me who are your clients? Is code for how you can sell my stuff to your network?

I had a refreshing Starbucks with a fellow Canadian and a person from France a few weeks ago.

They started the conversation with we don’t want your rolodex. We just want to talk to you.

Refreshing.

It is funny that young people don’t play too many games.

When I meet with them they are asking for honest help and true networking that isn’t about hype.

I am losing my cynicism and getting back on the right networking track.

We all need a realignment in our journeys from time to time.
