Full-Time Blogging… Is it Worth it?

Post by Taislany Gomes • November 04, 2016 • Beauty, Fashion, Lifestyle, Reviews

After writing Bye Bye Old Job! Welcome Full-time Blogging, loads of you asked me questions and tips about it so, I decided to take the time and answer some of them in a video.

Before going into more detail on how I started blogging and all that comes with it, I just wanted to thank all of you that took the time to congratulate me on this new chapter in my life. It really means a lot to know that I have your support and that you guys wish me so well. I truly feel blessed to have such supportive readers.

Onto today’s post… If like me, you’re a blogger you know that this is the most asked question: “How do you get paid for blogging?”. I think even though bloggers have been around for a while, people still don’t understand how we can possibly make money out of it – that’s why I decided to share if full-time blogging is worth your while:

Full-Time Blogging… Is it Worth it?

Recap On The Video:

Why did you decide to create a blog?
I got into blogging because I used to go out and people used to approach me to ask which products I had used to do my makeup, how I did it and where I had bought the outfit I was wearing (not all at the same time ha-ha).

I used to be a freelance photographer and used to get these questions at most events I went to so, I decided to create a platform where I could share all of that.

When did you start blogging?
I started blogging two years ago (2014) however, it was a hobby for nearly one year and a half.

What made you take your blog seriously?

My boyfriend, say what?! Yes, in the beginning of our relationship, he was clearly stalking me and stumbled upon my blog and asked me why I was not taking it seriously and I was like “What do you mean? I take it seriously!” (ha-ha). In my head, I was but he made me see the potential I had and how I could actually make this blog my personal brand.

He was genuinely interested and got really involved. Within a week he started taking my pictures and attending events with me as I was still nervous about it – I couldn’t have done it without him. His support was such a vital push and within a few months, I was up and running and extremely committed to taking taislany.com to the next level.

What helped you grow your blog?

– I started using Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) quite early and that has really helped drive traffic to the blog.

– Consistency was also a big factor. I started blogging every Monday’s and Thursday for 6 months (still do, but now Monday’s and Friday’s). Being consistent significantly changed the game! Brands started approaching me and mentioning how they loved a specific post that I had written. It also builds trust with your readers as they know that there will be a new post on those specific days.

– Social media, obviously! I started sharing my posts religiously on Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and LinkedIn. I also joined Facebook Support Groups in order to get more insight in what other people were doing to grow their blog. Here’s one of my favorites Grow Your Blog – it’s a private group so, you need to request to join but they are very active and will quickly accept you.

When did you start making money?
I started getting paid (very little) around 6 months ago. Your rate will go up depending on your experience, amount of followers and the quality of your content. The truth is that there’s no fixed rate so, you need to know your value and work out how much time and effort you put into each project.

How do you make money from blogging?

– Sponsored Blog Posts
– Social Media Endorsements
– Affiliate Programs

Full-Time Blogging… Is it Worth it?

– If you love it… it’s totally worth it! But let’s not pretend that this is not a major decision, it really is! You need to have some very long talks with your friend and family and listen to what they have to say. I don’t recommend making any big decision without consulting those who are close to you.

What should I bear in mind before quitting my job?

– Before going full-time make sure you have some money saved up to keep you going for the first year or so. You’ll need to eat, pay for travel and anything else that you might need. So, make sure to save come cash saved up before you quit your full-time job.

– I would say that it’s wise to only do blogging full-time if you have a good amount of people coming to your blog every month. If there are no readers you won’t be able to monetise it.

– I would also recommend that you make a short and long term plan where you set yourself some goals. It’s important to know what you want to achieve in order to keep you going and feeling motivated.

– Most importantly: You need to LOVE it! Doesn’t matter if it’s blogging, singing, acting… if there’s no passion it will be extremely hard to keep going.full-time bloggingI hope you guys liked this post, I really tried to cover all your questions about my full-time blogging experience but if there’s anything I haven’t mentioned in the video or in the post please let me know in the comments below.
