My rules: No players. No flirts. No cocky jerks. My exception: Dawson Marsh.
Dawson might be every girl’s crush in this small town, but not mine. I can appreciate him from a distance, and that suits me fine.
Except that one time he kissed me. Up close and personal.
Once is a mistake. But the second time? Sublime.
The man should come with some kind of a warning sign: Not safe for work! Hot to the touch! But what kind of girl can’t handle a little friends with benefits action, right?
The one who missed the most important warning: Danger, risk of falling.
*This is a full-length, standalone romance with a guaranteed HEA.

First, the good. I liked the female lead so much! She is genuine and understanding and so sweet and kind. The male lead was a bit frustrating, but I LOVED that he struggled with Depression and we got to see how he deals with it and how it effects his relationships.
Now, the bad. There is a scene in the book in which a mean girl (who the heroine knew from High School) verbally slams her in a local bar. The lead's best friend confronts the mean girl and says, "All you can do is sleep around. You’ve been doing it for so f***ing long all the guys know that’s all you’re good for!"
Ugh. Listen, confronting a female bully when she's awful to your friend is great. BUT slut-shaming her and saying men know she's only good for sex is NEVER OKAY. This is a major feminism fail. Not to mention, the male lead in this story has a reputation for sleeping around a lot and all of the other characters in this book are always saying things like "He just doesn't like to get serious. He's more into casual relationships."
I expect female authors to do better than this. You can't say that a man who sleeps around likes to "keep it casual" and then say that a woman who likes to sleep around "is only good for sex". It's gross and unacceptable.
I love this author, but THIS is incredibly disappointing.
Third book in this wonderful series and finally we get Dawson's story It is a emotional roller coaster ride that you will need tissue for
Dawson Marsh and Evie Blair both work together at Stolen Hearts Rescue he is an out and out flirt and a bit of a one and done man but he wants to change. There is a depp attraction between these two but Evie wants something permanent. Can Dawson overcome his inner demons to be the man she needs and wants These two both have emotional baggage and walls around their hearts but maybe they can overcome everything if the love between them is strong enough.
This is book 3 of the Swoon series and the first on that I have read and I really enjoyed this book. Dawson and Evie were such a great couple. The chemistry between them was off the charts. You could feel it radiating off the pages. I am surprised that my Kindle didn’t melt. They both had some issues in their past and they were able to overcome those because they had each other. I loved watching how their friendship developed into something much more. Great book.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Break my Fall was my first read from J.H. and I am SO now a fan girl!! Evie and Dawson have that undenaible chemistry but they have a very bumpy road and real romance is hard , it takes work . Their story gave me all the feels . They had a fabulous witty banter that is very sexually charged . They are brought to us as real people with real problems that need to have solutions to move on to hopefully true love . Wishing to find their person can be a struggle but the risk is worth it in the end!!!! ~~Michele McMullen ~~
J.H. Croix has quickly become a one click author for me. What started months ago with a well timed freebie has become a total obsession. Her characters make it easy to get caught up in the journey. Nothing is ever simple, but you can bet your heart that there is no escaping the turbulent, beauty of a wild ride. Breaking My Fall is a Kleenex absorber. Dawson and Evie take heartbreak to the extreme as they battle their way into love. Croix tackles some serious issues like depression and grief in order to find a rainbow that could be waiting on the other side.
Evie and Dawson were awesome together! I loved how they both were there for one another. They were meant for one another! So happy to see they got what they deserved! 💜💜💜
Really enjoyed reading Dawson and Evie’s story. Their back and forth joking and banter along with their undeniable chemistry made this an awesome romance. This was my first book in this series and I can say that you can read it completely as a standalone, although I plan to joe read the first 2 books! If you are looking for an easy to read romance with some steamy chemistry this book is for you!
Dawson and Evie are just adorable. I loved their off-the-charts chemistry and their easy banter. They felt so right for each other from the very beginning. I loved how their mutual attraction blossomed and morved into a deeper relationship with all ist struggles and insecurities…
I loved how their story made me feel all warm and fuzzy. A great love story about young love!
Dawson Marsh~ Strong, sexy, alpha firefighter, EMT & Instructor for the guests at the lodge has always had rules, never to take things to serious with a woman. Have short term sex, hook ups & be the tease of the town. But when it comes to Evie things have always been different. I just didn't understand what. She started working at the lodge for her friend Dani. I worked there to rune hikes for the guests, help continue to build the additional cabins Jackson is adding to the Lodge for Dani. But somehow Evie pushes my buttons. I cannot get enough of teasing her while she works at the restaurant & trying to go to school. While she lives in one of the cabins, i have watched he walk thru the woods to make sure she gets home safe. This time I scared her & while she stares at the sky on the rocks I give her a kiss. That kiss led to another one. Which later grew to an intense bond. Until I have to deal with questions from my mother to remind me why I don't do relationships. I'm afraid of love. I never had it thru the years trying to protect my mother & brother from my violent, addictive father. It's the reason I don't go home. But when I ask Evie to come with me one weekend, mom & Chad knows it's a big deal I don't bring any girl to that place. But I needed her security, her closeness. Is this what love is.
Evie~ I always had a crush on Dawson Marsh when i was in High school. I see him around town. But I knew that i wasn't his type. I was a nerd, but the loss of my twin sister made me a shy, scared, girl. It didn't help that I didn't fit in with the click chicks of high school who teased & bulled me.by freshman year. Now as an adult I have dealt with those insecurities, except when I'm around Dawson. I know he doesn't want a relationship, but can I resist the chemistry & electricity we have when we touch. During the month we have gotten close I have gotten to see the real side of him. What he went thru as a child. But I still don't know where we stand? Until all of a sudden he pulls away & breaks my heart. I knew I shouldn't have let him into my heart. Can this two lonely, souls open their hearts & admit to their emotions that the entire town sees & feels before it's two late. Read the steamy story of Dawson & Evie. Small town romance is hot, sexy, steamy, friends to lovers, opposites due attract & their is a beautiful emotional story to witness. The only people in the way of their love is themselves. .
This is book thee of this series and it can be read as a standalone. This is the story of two people whose past is so deeply painful that it keeps them from looking and hoping for real love. When they finally realize they find it, they don’t know what to do or to even trust it, but they both know they want it.
Evie suffered the loss of her twin sister back before she entered high school. No one really could understand the depth of that loss other than her family. She was teased in school and never felt worthy of male attention. She works at the lodge and is friends with Dani and Grace. On a night out with them she encounters unwelcome advances from a guy and to her surprise Dawson comes to her rescue. He unexpectedly kisses her and the hidden feelings she has for him come to the forefront.
Dawson works at the lodge with Wade and Jackson. He also is part of the volunteer emergency rescue team. After a rough rescue, the pain of his past is brought to the surface. His father was an abusive man who died of an overdose. He left that life behind him years ago, but now and then it resurfaces and haunts him. He is a good man who has mastered masking his pain through flirting and joking. Now he has a chance at something real and is not sure he is worthy or deserving.
Neither one of them had ever hoped for a forever love. One kiss turns to two night and they can't get enough of each other. When each of them secretly start falling in love and hoping for more, they are afraid to admit it to each other. Evie is more than ready to try, but Dawson is too afraid as his past continues to keep him from hoping for a future. This is where the story gets a little frustrating for me.
I loved these two characters, but I was frustrated at times, because Dawson couldn’t see he was deserving of love. Evie’s insecurities then took over too so she denied herself being deserving as well. They both started to want for forever, but would not let themselves. The storyline is good, the characters are likable, there is plenty of sexy time and the secondary characters add the perfect mix to the story. Overall this was an enjoyable read and of course we get our HEA... ⭐⭐⭐
I loved Dawson & Evie’s story! Evie was such a sweetheart, but she had a little sass too that was great. Dawson at first came across as a flirty playboy who just wanted casual & was sort of the hit it & quit it type. But there was so much more to him & I loved seeing him so determined to prove Evie wrong & prove she is the woman for him. The connection between these two was not just hot & sexy, but deep too. This story had me hooked instantly. I loved the romance parts, and the angst too. It was absolutely perfect!
Evie and Dawson have been good friends since he moved to town. They have feelings for each other but neither one has made the first move. Until Dawson decides he is tired of making everyone think he is a player. This book is great; it is filled with so many emotions and past pain that you want to jump into the pages and give them both a big hug. They have to overcome their fears and pain of losing someone and give the relationship a chance. I enjoyed this story and can't wait to go back and read the others in this series.
Another gripping, heart tugging story byJ.H. Croix! I absolutely fell in love with the funny, loving male lead Dawson. The author told a believable story that could have been your own. You are able to feel Evie’s continued hurt from her younger years and how it impacted her life, another story that could have been my own. Completely fell in love with this book and not only would I read it a second time but I would recommend it to others.
Evie and Dawson are two lost souls haunted by loss and depression. Dawson is an innocent flirt, but to most he is a player. That is the perception Evie had of him until she got to know him. She is his saving grace and light and he is hers. This story deals with loss, Opioid, and depression. When Dawson and Evie finally give in to their feelings, their chemistry explodes. This was a story that had me all in.
Dawson is a flirt who has never been in a serious relationship. Evie was bullied in high school and lacks self-confidence. Once they get involved, neither one will tell the other how they feel which leads to problems. Her insecurities became a little grating because she just couldn't let them go. If he'd wised up faster or she'd trusted his attraction to her this would have been five stars.
Break My Fall by J. H. Croix: 3.5 stars Dawson/Evie. A sweet, typical love story, with a bit of angst due to depression, and past family traumas. Favorite quote: There is no perfect in love. Ever. People screw up all the time. Even after they get things spectacularly right sometimes. If it matters, then do something about it. —PTators
Just a fun, sarcastic, sweet read. Ive read some novels from this author. The duel view point is fun. Thank you @bookbub for the freebie always greatful to read and rate from authors that can tell a romance story.
It honestly wasn’t a terrible book, I just kept losing interest in it. I skipped a few pages each time to try and get back into it but in the end I stopped reading several chapters before the end.
This was a good story of a couple who both had issues but seemed to be good together as friends. But all of s sudden they were more. A good read and well written.
This was a very sweet romance. I enjoyed the drama of both characters' with the found fascination they had for each other. I think everyone that enjoys a good romance will love this one.
