DeSoto passes 12,000 cases of COVID-19 and other community information

Since the outbreak of the coronavirus, DeSoto has recorded a total of 12,018 cases, with 35 new cases this week up from 31 new cases last week. According to KXAS-TV (NBC 5), the number of deaths in DeSoto is 195.

Dallas County data is available online and updated on a weekly basis. Dallas County does not report which cases are considered active or recovered.

The omicron variant of the coronavirus had spurred a surge in cases across Texas, however recent infection numbers have been declining.

Vaccines against the coronavirus became available on March 29 for all Texas adults. Federal regulators on Nov. 2 cleared the final regulatory hurdle in approving pediatric COVID-19 shots, giving the OK for thousands of North Texas children to be protected from the novel coronavirus.

The city maintains a list of clinics and health-care facilities where residents can obtain a COVID-19 test at no cost.
