Materials
- (A) Red Heart “With Love” (100% acrylic, aran size 4 weight, 370 yds per 7 oz): about 150 yards in Iced Aqua
- (B) Red Heart “With Love Stripes” (100% acrylic, aran size 4 weight, 223 yds per 5 oz):about 115 yards in Sandbar Stripe
- Suggested hook sizes: I-9 [5.5mm] and K-10½ [6.5mm]
- Yarn needle

Notes
This project is made by starting at one lower edge and making a strip of single crochet ribbing. Stitches are picked up around the long edge and worked in the round. The project is completed by working single crochet ribbing in join-as-you go fashion around the top edge.
When working the single crochet ribbing, if the last stitch of the row is a bit loopy, work under both loops for the last stitch of a row.
Gauge
In stitch pattern, approximately 12 sts for 9 rounds measures 4″ square.
Special Stitches
Puff: [Yarn over, insert hook in indicated stitch, yarn over, pull loop through] 3 times, yarn over, pull through 7 loops on hook.
Extended Single Crochet (esc): Insert hook in indicated stitch, yarn over, pull loop through, yarn over, pull through ONE loop on hook, yarn over, pull through 2 loops on hook.

Ribbing
Row 1: With color A and smaller hook, ch 6, sc in second ch from hook and in each rem ch across, turn: 5 sc.
Rows 2-72: Ch 1, working in back loops only, sc in each sc across, turn. Fasten off after final row.
Without twisting, use yarn needle to seam top of row 72 to bottom of row 1.
Cowl Body
Round 1: With color B and larger hook, join with sl st at seam, ch 1, working along long edge, work 1 sc in side of each row of Ribbing, drop color B, with color A, sl st to first sc: 72 sc.
Round 2: Now with color A, *ch 3, Puff in third ch from hook, sk next 2 sc, sl st in next sc, rep from * around, switch to color B on final st: 24 Puffs.
Round 3: Now with color B, ch 1, esc in same st as joining, *ch 1, sc in ch-2 sp at top of Puff, ch 1, esc in sc below sl st, rep from * to last Puff, ch 1, sc in ch-2 sp at top of last Puff, ch 1, sl st to top of esc.
Round 4: Sl st in ch-1 sp, ch 1, sc in same ch-1 sp, sc in sc, sc in ch-1 sp, *sk esc, sc in ch-1 sp, sc in sc, sc in ch-1 sp, rep from * around, drop color B, with color A, sl st to first sc.
Rounds 5-16: Rep rounds 2-4. On final round, change to color A, cut off B.
Top Ribbing
Row 1: (Still attached to body of cowl, ribbing is worked vertically along stitches from last round of cowl.) With smaller hook and color A, ch 6, sc in second ch from hook and in next 4 ch, on cowl body sk 1 sc from round 16, sl st in next sc, turn ribbing.
Row 2: Working in back loops only, sc in 5 sc, turn ribbing.
Row 3: Ch 1, working in back loops only, sc in 5 sc, on cowl body, sk 1 sc from round 16, sl st in next sc, turn ribbing.
Rep rows 2-3 until all sc used from round 16, fasten off.
Seaming
With yarn needle, seam top of last row of Top Ribbing to bottom of first row of Top Ribbing.
Finishing
Weave in ends carefully.
