Is Splice planning to make an online DAW?
A recent acquisition of Superpowered could mean new technology hitting the platform in the near future.

Splice has become a go-to resource for countless producers and musicians, thanks to an extensive library of samples and rent-to-own plug-ins. And an announcement on 13 May could reveal that the brand has plans to progress into new territory, with the acquisition of audio tech company Superpowered.
Superpowered provides powerful development tools for creating interactive audio apps across different devices and platforms. It’s the tech behind Beatport and Byte, Fishman, Hoopla Digital, InMusic, Libsyn, Pzziz, Naver, Tencent and Voloco.
Also joining the new team is Gabor Szanto as Head of Audio Engineering, who is the creator of DJ Player Pro. As a DJ and audio technologist in his own right, he began developing Superpowered’s technology shortly after the creation of DJ Player Pro. “This will only mean great things for our community of creators”, Splice says on his recruitment.
So what is Splice planning exactly? It could be that with this new arsenal of tools and knowledge behind them, Splice is planning on branching out its service to offer a more comprehensive music-making solution – perhaps its own browser-based DAW? It may even move to acquire an already-existing platform.
Regardless, Spice claims that “new features built with Superpowered technology will start to roll out as soon as next month”.
