More than 2,600 Chipotle Mexican Grill employees across 135 restaurants have qualified for bonuses under a program rolled out in June that awards an extra week of pay for outstanding performance each quarter, the fast-casual chain announced Tuesday.
All hourly employees who’ve been employed at Chipotle for the quarter are eligible to participate in the program. Bonuses are distributed if restaurant teams meet sales, cash flow and throughput goals.
The bonus program, along with other perks such as paid meal breaks, free GED and ESL classes, tuition reimbursement and health benefits, is contributing to decreased turnover, the company said.
Chipotle representatives declined to say how much turnover had declined after adding the bonus and other benefits.
“We are strategically investing in our people by giving all employees the opportunity to earn a performance bonus and it’s paying off,” said Chief People Officer Marissa Andrada in a statement. “It’s exciting to see how many locations qualified and the high level of engagement from our restaurant teams.”
The more than 2,500-unit Newport, Calif.-based chain has more than 80,000 salaried and hourly employees across five countries.
