The codename of the upcoming Ubuntu 19.10 operating system, which is scheduled for release later this fall, has been revealed today by Canonical as "Eoan Ermine".

We already knew the first part of the codename of Ubuntu 19.10 as being "Eoan" when Canonical kicked off the development cycle and pushed the first daily builds, but we had no idea which animal that starts with the letter E the company decides to add to the upcoming operating system, and today is has been revealed as the "Ermine".

Ok, so what's an Ermine you might ask? Well, according to the New World Encyclopedia, the Ermine is a common name given to a small, northern weasel called Mustela erminea. The Ermine is characterized by a long body with short legs, black-tipped and short tail, and a dark brown fur, but only in the summer months because it turns white in the winter.

Ubuntu 19.10 (Eoan Ermine) will be released on October 17th, 2019

We've already told you in a previous report that the Ubuntu 19.10 (Eoan Ermine) operating system will be released on October 17th, 2019, but we will remind you again on this occasion, along with the fact that the beta release will be available for public testing on September 26th. Like previous versions, Ubuntu 19.10 won't have Alpha pre-releases during its development cycle.

We expect Ubuntu 19.10 (Eoan Ermine) to ship with the upcoming GNOME 3.34 desktop environment by default, as well as all the latest GNU/Linux technologies and Open Source software that should be available around its release date. As usual, we will fully cover the entire development cycle, so stay tuned for more exciting news about Ubuntu 19.10 as they'll be revealed in the coming weeks and months.
