Story
Edgar Allan Poe elevated the gothic story, developed the unreliable narrator, recast psychological terror, and reveled in both the horror and the supernal beauty of death. From Poe's rich, unrivaled imagination comes a collection of his most masterful works, including "The Black Cat", "The Fall of the House of Usher", and, of course, "The Tell-Tale Heart". Each story explores morbid themes of grief, greed, fear, and guilt, and together they embody Poe's grotesque obsessions...even the dread of being buried alive.

Each story explores a different twist of madness, murder, and melancholy, from the horror of being buried alive in "The Fall of the House of Usher" to the desperate case of two gruesome killings in "The Murders in the Rue Morgue." The heartbeat of paranoia in "The Tell-Tale Heart," the razor-sharp claustrophobia in "The Pit and the Pendulum," and a mourner's torment in "The Raven" reveal - and revel in - life's creepiest and craziest. These tales are not for the faint of heart or the thin of skin.

Story
From a poor underground street fighter, I rose to fame as the world heavyweight boxing champion. No one knew I was also a monster who hunted in the shadows. Trapped in the mafia until my debts were paid. A simple deal held my freedom—unify my belts. It seemed simple until an enchanting British firecracker landed on my lap, knocking me sideways. Wanting her was dangerous for us both, but I took her anyway. Leaving me with the choice, fight for my freedom or hers. When the truth is unmasked, could she still love me? Would love be enough to battle our demons and come out on top?

Story
The classic fantasy that influenced C. S. Lewis and Tolkien, considered one of George MacDonald's most important works, is the story of the young man, Anodos, and his adventures in fairyland which ultimately reveal the human condition. "I write, not for children," wrote George MacDonald, "but for the child-like, whether they be of five, or 50, or 75." All-at-once written with an innocent whimsy and soulful yearning, the heart of Anodos' journey through fairyland reveals a spiritual quest that requires a surrender of the self.

Story
Les Misérables is set in Paris after the French Revolution. In the sewers and backstreets, we encounter "the wolf-like tread of crime", and assassination for a few sous is all in a day's work. We weep with the unlucky and heart-broken Fantine, and we exult with the heroic revolutionaries of the barricades; but above all we thrill to the steadfast courage and nobility of soul of ex-convict Jean Valjean, always in danger from the relentless pursuit of the diabolical Inspector Javert.

Story
Ingersoll Lockwood invented the fictional character Baron Trump in 1890 for a two-part sci-fi/fantasy series about a privileged German heir who undertakes a sequence of fantastic voyages. The style of the Baron Trump series - a mix of fantasy and young-reader-oriented science fiction - anticipated and may have influenced L. Frank Baum's Oz series. The Travel and Adventures of Little Baron Trump describes Baron's trip around the world with his little dog, meeting new races like the Wind Eaters, Man Hoppers, and Melodious Sneezers.

Story
The Monk is a violent tale of ambition, murder, and incest. The great struggle between maintaining monastic vows and fulfilling personal ambitions leads the monk Ambrosio, into temptation and the breaking of his vows, then to sexual obsession and rape, and finally to murder in order to conceal his guilt. Written when Matthew Lewis was only 19, The Monk was criticised when first published in 1796 for its lewdness and impiety, but this criticism only added to its popularity.

I've got everything it takes to make it in Tinseltown: confidence, charisma, and a killer chin. Now all I need is a chance. But Los Angeles is full of hot young hunks, and talent might not be enough to separate me from the cookie-cutter crowd. So I devise a wild scheme to get noticed. Pretend I’m someone I'm not—good-bye Will O’Connell of Cincinnati and hello Liam O’Connell of Dublin. The average song is three and a half minutes long; those three and a half minutes could lead to a slow blink, a glimpse of the past, or catapult the soul into heart-shattering nostalgia. At the height of my career, I had the life I wanted, the life I’d always envisioned. I’d found my tempo, my rhythm. Then I received a phone call that left me off key. You see, my favorite songs had a way of playing simultaneously. I was in love with one man’s beats and another’s lyrics. But when it came to the soundtrack of a life, how could anyone choose a favorite song?

A MASTERPIECE!
I have been listening to Joe Arden narrate romance for many years now and I have heard many sides of his voice. There is a reason why he is my favorite narrator. He is a passionate storyteller, the way he taps in to every character with passion and emotion makes him a MASTER in his craft. HOWEVER it was not until this MAGNIFICENT performance that I understood how incredible his talent truly is. Hearing his telling of Edgar Allan Poe's short stories and poems was such an experience!! One you MUST experience for yourself! It is the darker, grittier and crazier side of his voice but so impactful! As I listened, I was blown away the emotion in Joe’s voice. His delivery is strong and powerful and gave me goosebumps at the end of each poem or story! BRILLIANT WORK JOE!

Making Poe Accessible
I have thoroughly enjoyed listening to Joe Arden read Poe. He does a great job of making the stories and poems come to life by reading these lines in a modern way. I think it is easy to make Poe sound disconnected and stuffy as we don't tend to write nor talk the same way as Poe did. Joe does a great job of bringing the words in close, and creating a personal world of gothic delights.

Wow, so much more than I excepted.
I have loved listening to Joe Arden’s voice for years now and this, this was so amazing. The way he pulls you into each new poem he reads is just…I have no words to describe.
I so enjoyed hearing Poe in a whole new way, Joe was able to breathe new life into these classics in such a way that now every time I read them, I will forever hear his voice.
I even was able to engage my husband to give Poe a listen. He too was just enthralled with the voice that brought new life to old classics we were forced to read in school. He now says if this was an option then, he would love Poe’s writing as much as I do.
Thank you Joe for breathing new life into such amazing work.

Dive into the Darkness….
“ I would define the poetry of words as the rhythmical creation of beauty “… Edgar Allan Poe.
Well, award winning audiobook narrator, Joe Arden really brought this collection of EAP macabre stories and poems in a beautifully dark and unique way that’s all Joe’s own style. If you are a fan of Poe, you will certainly enjoy the extraordinary performance by Joe. I’m OBSESSED, he blew me away with how much he got into it, so animated, so expressive. He captures each story/poem with such passion. His articulation, infections, and emotions are so on point for each piece, each line. I really FELT THIS!
This collection was thrilling and exciting to listen to. There were so many “take my breath away” moments. Joe made my heart race really fast, and then in the next story, make me feel so relaxed and calm. I love reading Poe, but having Joe Arden read it to me in his unique way was such a treat! The Tell Tale Heart was my favorite piece in this collection. Joe gave another level of performance on this one, my goodness. The crazy inflections, extremely animated, slow…very slow whispers that gets your heart and mind going and your breathing hitched. His aggressive, menacing, CREEPY cackle, and that maniacal laughter that was spine tingling and hair raising.
If you are a fan of Poe, this is a MUST LISTEN! There is something for everyone in these haunting tales. I highly recommend Joe’s remarkable interpretation on Poe’s classic works.

Joe Arden is Sensational!
I have known Joe Arden to be talented, passionate. A narrator that truly knows how to emote, however, while listening to his rendition of Poe's poems and short stories, I can only conclude that I do not believe any other would have brought interest to some of Poe's darkest tales as Joe has. For example, `The Pit and Pendulum` only Joe can make this tale sound interesting. Joe came from all sides of the spectrum in these readings: melancholy, desolate, mysterious, upbeat, restless, melodious, suspensful, lyrical, composed both personally and in the literary form; and YES! even comically sarcastic in `The Cask of Amontillado '. No question, the myriad of emotions articulated by one of my favorite narrators in this book is insurmountable! Lastly, in 'The Oval Portrait' Joe comes to life, ALL JOE ARDEN!!! True and true! He is extraordinary, so F...G talented, beautiful and overall terrific! I love you Joe Arden

Joe Arden made me fall more in love with Edgar Allan Poe.
With his hauntingly beautiful rendition of the beloved classics, we have all read time and time again Joe Arden gives us Poe in a way that will send chills down your spine. You could feel the raw emotion, the passion, and the spine-tingling moments as if you were there seeing them come to life.
The Essential Poe According to Joe is going to be my new go to method when I want a little Poe in my life. Joe Arden is one of the best narrators I have ever heard and with this collection it really proves that he can do anything, and it make it sound delicious.
