The elephant in the room
18 Mar
Why won’t you talk about the genocide in Gaza? I’m a big fan of both of you and I’m so upset that like all the other Podcasters you are avoiding the issue. Why? It’s like the film The Zone of Interest… it’s happening I front of our eyes. Please look! Thank you Annabel Shaw
Hard Agreement
I have listened to The Two Matts for a couple of years and, although not always in agreement with every point they make, I appreciated the quality of their conversation. However, they (increasingly?) agree with each other so fervently, I feel they are losing their empathy for other perspectives. The assisted dying conversations have been exceptionally brilliant.
Disappointed

Used to really enjoy this podcast but it’s gone down hill massively in the last 6 months. They used to provide a clear and reasoned explanation of the flaws of the previous government and the idiocy of Brexit but they seem incapable of giving the new government a fair chance. I’m all for providing robust challenge but they seem entirely irrational in their dislike of Starmer and, particularly, Rachel Reeves. They start the latest episode with a clip of an interview with her which includes the question and the start of what was actually a lengthy answer but then cut it off after a few seconds so they can go on and tell listeners at length what a bad answer it was. If it was genuinely bad, let us hear and judge for ourselves. Shall cease listening and be unsubscribing to the New European imminently. Shame.
Don’t Stop the Impersonations.

Ignore the whingers. Not all political messages have to be delivered po-faced. Lighten up.

Matthew d'Ancona keeps interrupting the other Matt. Please let him speak fully.
Much smugness
13/12/2024
I’d echo the comments of recent reviewers and add an additional comment as to just how smug Matt & Matt have become. This pains me as a previous subscriber to TNE and a loyal listener to the podcast in its previous incarnation under Steve Anglesey and prior to that, Richard Porritt. This has become the audio equivalent of listening to a couple of centrist-dad bores at the bar (and I’d describe myself as a centrist-dad!). Unsubscribed.
Used to be great

It’s such a shame I used to love this podcast but I find it unlistenable now. The two Matts are unrelentingly critical of the Labour government for whatever it does. They are caught in a binary between fawning client journalism and criticising for the sake of criticising. So opt for the latter to ensure journalistic interest. But there are plenty of journalists capable of following a middle path, but sadly not the two Matts.
Kamala did awesome on FOX
20/10/2024
Kamala absolutely destroyed Brett Baier on Fox. Her performance was excellent against extremely hostile questions. Trump said he wouldn’t be interviewed by Brett on FOX! Trump at a Townhall says “who wants to hear questions, let’s turn it into music” then proceeds on stage to sway for 39 mins to music while everyone looks on bemused or leaves. Tell your audience how it is!
EU

Just stop banging on about rejoining. It’s not our decision, they won’t entertain it we’re to divided. STOP STOP please.
Mullins ….
29/08/2024
…. great you had Charlie Mullins on, but your comment in the follow-up that you’d never entertain Farage as it would ‘give him a platform’ was puzzling. He’s an elected politician so there’d be no need to pull your punches as you did with Mullins. What are you afraid of?
