Excess All Areas #2

Next Time I Fall

Jase
Love sucks.
Especially when your own brother and fellow band-mate stole the woman you were in love with.
Sitting in a Michigan recording studio with him, singing lyrics he wrote about her, is a special kind of torture.
The only thing more frustrating might be the producer’s assistant who radiates sunshine and has more motivational quotes than a greeting card company.

Cerys
Love rocks.
Heavy guitars, a voice with the burn of pure single malt, and lyrics that distil the meaning of love are the greatest things.
If only the man singing didn’t have a temperament as foul as the Michigan winter. Jase sitting in her car while yelling at her to get him out of there is a surprise. Why she hits the accelerator and takes him to her father’s cabin on the lake is an even greater mystery.

How was she supposed to know they’d end up snowed in for days? Or that when they got out again, their relationship, and her views on love, would be changed irrevocably?

Four-time RITA finalist, Scarlett Cole, is a contemporary romantic suspense / contemporary romance author (represented by Louise Fury at The Bent Agency) who calls both Toronto, Canada and Manchester, England home. A born city dweller, she periodically quashes the urge to live in the country by hiking up a mountain to remind herself that living away from people would terrify the pants off her.

She believes everybody deserves their love story to be told and loves her heroes on the rough and rugged side…and usually tall (because she married one of those 6ft 6” men you read about in romance!). She’s an A-type personality and Scorpio star sign, so good luck getting her to do anything she doesn’t want to.

When she isn’t writing, she’s happy to talk hot men and expensive shoes while drinking a cold gin and tonic. Don’t bring up olives. As far as Scarlett is concerned, they are the devil’s food. As long as you don’t bring up olives, she’s happy to hear from any time.

Jase and Cerys‘ story is everything I love about Scarlett Cole’s books, it’s well written with likable characters and it’s filled with emotions that run deep.

Jase is the lead vocalist for an up and coming band that has just been signed and is now in the US recording their first record. But to say things are hard for him would be an understatement, how would you feel if you had to sing songs that your brother wrote about the woman he was in love with....that you loved too? Well, that's the quandary Jase finds himself in so he's constantly lashing out.

Cerys has moved across the pond to Detroit to work with one of the best recording producers in the industry but their past makes things difficult for Cerys, and my heart just broke for her.

Jase and Cerys will have you rooting for them right from the start, there is nothing that I love more than finding love than in the most unexpected places. If you enjoy Steamy Contemporary Romances, Rockstar Romances, or are just looking for a good read to loose yourself in for an afternoon I would recommend this book to you.

Happy Reading!!!

LISTEN! Wanna know a secret? (lol) Scarlett Cole is ridiculously talented. I mean RI.DI.CU.LOUS.LY. She will tear your heart up from the inside out and bring your soul to its knees with the flick of a pen and then turn around and build it all back up with a passion of a thousand suns … every.single.time.

So yeah, I love her work.

The story of Jase & Cerys is heart thumping, passionate, deeply emotional with characters you will want to jump into the story to hug. A more perfect journey I could not have imagined for Jase. If you decide to read this series, I really think you’d do yourself a favor and start at the beginning of the series and move forward. There are reasons and you’ll figure them out once you do as I say ;) I don’t do play-by-play reviews so that’s all you get on that from me. I do like to talk about what feelings a book invokes in me because I think that’s what a voracious reader such as myself remembers most about books. This story made me feel all the things and then some. Jase isn’t someone I cared either way for when I started his journey with Cerys but he won me over quick.

What I enjoyed the most out of this book is that Jase and Cerys didn’t just journey thru the book for their HEA, they also journeyed for themselves. They had their own individual circumstances to hurdle from to become better versions of themselves for themselves and for each other. Those are the best kind of stories, imo! Soooooooooo, go do the thing already!

“The next time I really fall in love with someone for all the right reasons, it’ll be you, if you’ll let me.”

4.5 stars!

This is the second book in the Excess All Areas series, and it’s an emotional, sweet and heartfelt story of redemption, with wonderfully written family drama and a gorgeous love story.

I love rock star romance and I adored the first book in this series (One Day Like This), and I’ve been desperately waiting for this one. In the first book, Cole set up Sad Fridays lead singer, Jase, as a selfish, irreverent, entitled a-hole. She created herself a big job to redeem him and present him as a romantic hero, and she absolutely nailed it.

Jase is the younger brother of Matt (Sad Fridays band member and hero of book #1). He has a whole lot of issues stemming from his brutal childhood and his own bad behaviour, and the fact that he hasn’t dealt with any of it. His role in the band is tenuous, and with the boys travelling to the US to record their first album, he knows he’s on shaky ground.

Cerys loves music. It’s her dream to open her own production studio, and she’s taking advantage of her famous (but absent-for-her-whole-life) father, who is a music producer, and she has travelled from the UK to the US to work with him for three months and gain some experience in the business. So she is there when the Sad Fridays come into the studio, and she witnesses the band’s dysfunction and their lead singer, Jase, throwing one of his epic tantrums. It’s a difficult situation, but she is bright, perky and positive, and wants to do whatever she can to help the boys find success.

When Jase has yet another meltdown and escapes the studio, Cerys just happens to be outside in her car on her way out of town. Desperate to get away, Jase invites himself along for a road trip, but the two of them end up snowed in at her father’s lake house, and the next few days will change their lives forever.

“Every morning, if you are really lucky, you get to wake up. You get to make a choice of how you want to spend the next twenty-four hours on the planet. You have the opportunity to make a difference.”

Cerys is determined to help Jase and the band, and that starts by getting to the heart of his attitude. And over the course of a few snowy days, that’s exactly what she does. Jase is angry and he’s hurting, you can see that he wants to change, but he has no idea how to go about it. Cerys gives him that outlet, encouraging him to confront his demons, own his pain, embrace his emotions and pour his heart out through music, and the ride is full of feels.

“The songs are Matt’s songs. The lyrics are his experiences. I’m just the way he shares his emotions with the world. He thinks I don’t understand him, but I do. I sing his truth, his pain, the stuff that happened to him every fucking time I stand on that stage.”

Oh, I ached for him. It’s heartbreaking reading, but he’s so ready to change, and he just happens to have found the right person to help him do it.

“I’m sorry. Did I go too far?”

“You went further than anyone else has . . . and I needed to hear it. Your faith in me makes me feel like I could conquer all of it.”

Cerys is this bright ray of sunshine that is the Jase finally facing his issues, and while they’re unearthing his deepest hurts and desires, attraction blossoms that neither of them were expecting. It’s quick, but it’s heartfelt, their chemistry sizzles, and they are so open and honest about it.

“You know we’re going to happen, right?”

“You’re my choice, Jase. I don’t know where this will go, but I’m committed to figuring that out with you.”

It’s not all deep feelings and drama, there is a wonderful playfulness to Jase, and I couldn’t help but laugh at some of his antics and the witty banter between him and Cerys. Their romance is sweet, fun, passionate and emotional, and they are so functional! They hold nothing back while sensibly, playfully, tenderly exploring each other and all that they feel, and it’s an absolute dream watching it all unfold!

“Have I told you I’m going to fall in love with you? All the way in love with you.”
Her heart exploded in her chest. “You might have mentioned it.”
“Have you had any thoughts on whether you might do the same?”
“Jase, come on,” Matt yelled again. “Flirt with Cerys later.”
Jase looked down the corridor. “Gimme a minute.” He focused his gaze back on her. “I need an answer, Cerys.”
“Yes, Jason Palmer, I think I’m going to fall in love with you too.”
Jase grinned and walked down the corridor with his fist in the air like Judd Nelson at the end of
The Breakfast Club. She couldn’t help but laugh.

The romance goes hand-in-hand with Jase’s journey, and the band is another big part of that. When Jase reveals his truth to the guys and starts the process of making amends, my heart was pounding. Those emotional scenes brought tears to my eyes, and I hurt for all of them, but it was so beautiful to watch, and it’s such a game-changing moment for all of the boys, their relationships with each other, and their future together. I love how Scarlett Cole has tied all of the different elements of the story together, and the direction that it took the band, the book, and the future of the series.

“Some bonds are so fucking durable they can be tested every day our entire lives and they just won’t break … I might fucking stumble. But I know the next time I fall, you’ll catch me … I won’t feel like I’m on my own.

I loved being back with these characters in their world. Cole has written this story so well, giving us glimpses at all of the boys and their family, which I loved, and also I loved the added drama of Cerys’ family situation and how that all played into the story. The book ends in a great place, and there’s an epilogue which leads into Luke’s book up next, and I could not be more excited!

I’m loving this series so much, and loved Jase and Cerys’ story.

4.5 stars!

I love it when an author can take a character you don’t like and not only redeem him but have him grow so much that you actually love him, and Scarlett Cole has done just that in Next Time I Fall. This book was pure perfection to me; rock star romance, a strong and smart heroine, a bit of a forbidden romance, conflict with family but not between the couple, and filled with emotion.

Jase almost broke up the band and for sure torpedoed his relationship with his brother in the first book in this series. Faced with letting the band sign with a record company without him, or getting it together enough to move forward Jase does move forward but things are still tense and he’s not sure he will make it through the month in Detroit recording feeling the way he does. What he doesn’t count on is meeting Cerys, their producer’s estranged daughter on the impact she will have on his life in a short amount of time.

After being denied a loan to open her own recording studio in England, Cerys contacted her well known producer father and asked to go to America and work with him to gain some experience and hopefully a reference so she can go home, get a job in a studio there while working towards opening her own. What she didn’t expect was for her father who she’s never really known to pretty much ignore her, treat her like a glorified office assistant, and to not let her help with any of the producing or to listen to her ideas. Frustrated beyond believe, she’s excited for the band Sad Fridays to arrive but seeing their dysfunctional relationship right off the bat she knows until they figure out how to deal with their anger with one another, they might flame out before they even get started. Their lead singer Jase tried to make her life miserable, but soon she’s forcing him to face what he’s feeling, to channel it, and in the process they form an unshakable bond.

Their attraction was combustible, but Jase wanted to do things differently with Cerys and thus this slow burn romance was born. I loved that they really got to know one another; they shared their fears, their heartaches, the family pain, and their hopes as well as their dreams for their futures. Their feelings for one another were powerful and yes there was worry they might burn out after their bubble of Detroit was gone, but they even communicated about that as well. They were open, honest, and raw with one another and it was beautiful to see, but there were also light, fun, and tender moments that left me laughing. Everything in this story was so well balanced.

I read Next Time I Fall straight through, I could not put it down and when it was over I wanted to pick it up and start over again. That’s when I know I’ve read a book that will stick with me for a very long time. Scarlett Cole has once again produced magic with her words and I am completely under her spell.

Next Time I Fall is the second book in the Excess All Areas series, and although I haven't read the first in this series, I haven't had any problems understanding this story. It had been many years since I had picked up a book by this author to read, but I really enjoyed the story of Jase and Cerys.

Jase is the typical rebellious good guy and disgusted with the world that has a complicated past, but I found myself understanding his side and rooting for him. Here the book takes place in the universe of music and it was interesting to see this universe and his dynamics with his bandmates. Cery is the person Jase needed in his life, and it was sweet to see how their romance softened him, and made him open up to others.

I liked the book, I confess that I don't know if I'm going to read the first book of the series, because Matt was a character that I didn't like very much, I believe he could even change his mind, but at the moment I'm not a big fan of him and his girlfriend. But I look forward to seeing more of the other members of the band and I'm curious to see how Luke's story unfolds.

Scarlett Cole has become go to author to me since I fell in love with the world she created in the first book of her Excess All Areas rockstar romance series. Make sure to read Matt's story, One Day Like This, to see where Sad Friday's got their start. Her characters felt real, flawed, witty and were mostly likeable...mostly, you say?? Yes, well, there was one who had such a sarcastic, confrontational attitude, I seriously wondered how he could be redeemed in his own story here in Next Time I Fall.

When Jase Palmer, lead singer of Sad Fridays, makes the unlikely decision to stay with his band, the fallout of every decision he, his brother and his bandmates have made in the past- good, bad or indifferent, has to be dealt with or they'll all go down together. A contract, an album and the chance of a lifetime is waiting in America, if they can pull themselves together long enough to make it happen.

So, when Jase and newly minted music producer Cerys Hughes- Bexter first meet in the recording studio, he tries to make an enemy of her, as he does so well, but she stands strong. Cerys has alot to prove in this male dominated career she's chosen- to herself, her absent father and everyone associated with Bexter Records. I loved her upbeat personality and her intuitive ability to funnel her artist's emotions and feelings right back into their music...it served her well as she tried to show what she could do as a producer. She was a quietly intelligent and very talented young woman, if only her father would notice.

For Jase, his past- the pain, old resentments and fears were holding him back and continued to create havoc within the band, but Cerys brought out the very best in him-personally and with his voice and music. Her patient, postive presence provided a calm, peace filled place for Jase to become his true self, like no one ever has, not even his beloved Nan. With her in his corner, confidence in himself and his musical abilities grows and flourishes.

They both were evolving into who they were meant to be which was one of my favorite parts of the book and so fun to watch happen. When they spent time alone together, it was a melding of spirits, quite a turnaround for the temperamental Jase. I loved who they were with each other and the direction things seemed to be going for them.

Seeing this side of Jase was such a shock to me...who knew that this difficult, angry man would wind up being the eloquent voice of maturity and reason?? The man I wanted to kick some sense into a while back was now the romantic, swoony one I was dying to know more about and give the biggest hug to.  Oh what sexy surprises are waiting for the lucky readers of this book and series!!! Jase and Cerys started out as negative and volatile versus peaceful and positive but somewhere down the line, they became perfectly meshed into loving forever!

Next Time I Fall is the second book I've read so far by Scarlett Cole, but won't be the last. I love that she doesn't rely on too much drama and over the top angst, just amazing stories and wonderful characters filled with big personalities, warmth and heart that overflows from every page she writes. Jase and Cerys's emotional story will stay with me- they found their soulmate here, muscially and romantically. This book's last chapter also left behind a big, new, juicy morsel to chew thoughtfully on, until the next time. A teeny teaser of Luke's story...wow, it can't come soon enough for me. I was thrilled to be able to read an early copy of this book and share my honest review of it.

***5 ‘Waves' Stars***

After finishing ODLT, not only was I all in for the series, I was all in to have Jase’s book be the next one because the tension between them all was giving me a dose of anxiety and I needed to have some sort of...not resolution because the issues between them all are deep...but a start of a path to clearing the air and moving forward...and lemme tell you I got that and so much more! Yes, there were still parts of this book that were painful, but Jase and Cerys were amazing! Sweet, awkward, funny, heartbreaking and yet filled with the type of swoony-ness that had my heart all kinds of twitterpated and my cheeks hurting from all the grinning I was doing. I really just need more of them.

So, obviously I ADORED Jase and Cerys. Funny thing about Jase, I felt for him in ODLT.. He was his own worst enemy, and the need to Gibbs smack some sense into him was strong, but his pain was real and heartbreaking. So to watch him work through all of the intense feelings he has and see the sweet guy, who still has an edge to him come out to play? Well, he’s book boyfriend gold as far as I’m concerned. And Cerys? Full on girl crush going on. Yes, she is sunshine and positivity, but it’s not OTT. She isn’t a doormat, she doesn’t look at the world with rose colored glasses on, she is simply real and would rather take the high road than not.

As for their journey to their HEA. The funny thing with them is that things do progress quickly and yet there is a slow burn woven in that oddly enough worked for me in the best of ways. They do butt heads, but music connects them, so through it they learn to see each other in a way most people don’t and after that all bets are off. I simply liked their flow and how they actually communicated with each other, so there were no mind games going on and in the end, I loved how it all worked out for them.

There were so many ways this book could have gone, but I’m very happy with the road taken. It had the perfect blend of angst, humor and sweetness for me. As for the Sad Fridays...I enjoyed catching up with all of them. I liked how things changed with them all, for the most part, it’s a change in progress kind of thing. I really like Alex and Ben and Matt and Iz. Luke? We’ll see. He’s got things to work through. But Nan was freakin’ amazing as always. I seriously want to be here when I grow up. And as for the new characters? I need more of Zoe. MORE. So toes crossed. But Luke’s up on the chopping block next and considering all that is already going on, it’s gonna be one hell of a ride.

Next Time I Fall is so emotional it cannot be contained. Cole drowns the soul in a battle of broken hearts, crumbling dreams and yearning love. Jase and Cerys are a combination of false starts, missed chances and past heartache. From painful to powerful to unforgettable, Next Time I Fall has a pull that's irresistible to the heart.

This is the second book in Scarlett Coles latest rock star series and focuses on Jase and Cerys. Jase is the lead singer of a rock band from Manchester England. I urge you to read One Day Like This, the first book. It didn’t work as well as other of Scarlett Coles books for me but that was more the trope than the writing and others haven’t been bothered by the trope, heroes best friends younger sister. I also would have preferred the heat burner turned down a bit and character development turned up a bit in that book. But very early I knew I’d be reading this book as I needed Jase’s story. He’s the younger brother of the hero in the first book and their relationship, never good at the best of times, has suffered major damage as Jase slept with the love interest of his brother (they weren’t together so no cheating).

At the end of the first book, their band, Sad Fridays, has been “discovered” when a popular influencer uses one of their songs and it’s gone viral and they have an opportunity to work with a record producer and record an album. But the band are not getting along at all and Jase is just about ready to say the hell with it and walk away. But he flips a coin and the coin comes up to go to the meeting and stay with the band.

So off to Detroit they head, to work with the record producer. This is where Cerys comes in. She wants to get into producing music and it’s her father who just happens to be the one working with Sad Fridays. While he’s her father, he’s never been a part of her life. Though he’s paid child support, he left her mother when she announced she was pregnant. But he’s the best in the business and Cerys has convinced him to work with her in training her, though up until now, he hasn’t really given her any real chances to develop her craft.

When she hears Sad Friday, she recognizes their talent and unique sound and wants to work with them. She thinks she can be good for them. But as usual he rejects her ask.

But she meets Jase and though he’s rude to her, she is able to see beneath the surface and knows there’s more to him than he shows. See, I knew that too when I ‘met’ him in the first book and we were both right. As Jase slowly, over time, tells his life and it’s heartbreaking. He’s kept all this to himself so no one knows why he’s been such a bitter asshole to everyone around him except his grandma. But as we see his inner demons we know why. And the more she gets to know him and get to know the inner Jase, the deeper she falls for him.

And Jace has never had anyone so much in his corner. She supports him and encourages him in telling his band mates what his experiences were when he was growing up and it’s the beginning of a real healing. And I truly appreciate that he and Matt aren’t instantly healed. They still have their legitimate resentments against each other but it’s like the wound has been lanced and the poison is out now so the healing process can start.

I love seeing how caring Jase actually is. Just one example; Cerys discovers he’s very good at playing guitar and when she asks why no one in the band knows, he tells her that the other two members also wanted to play with them so he gives up his own guitar playing so there’s a place for them. But he never told anyone about this until he confess to Cerys. There’s a number of instances this kind of thoughtfulness. He has some excellent ideas on how to make the band better but has never really been able to express them because of his negative attitude.

This is also a grumpy/sunshine story. You can guess who the grump is so that makes Cerys the sunshine and she is a wonderful, positive, sweet, caring heroine. Watching the love development between Cerys and Jase is so wonderful and touching.

As you can probably tell by the length of this review that I adore this book and I just want everyone to to read it. It really got to me it’s a 5+ book and I raced through it, not able to put it down. So now I need to read it again, slowly this time so I can save it.

So I’m left to just say you have to read Next Time I Fall. I dare say most will say “I’m so glad you told me to read this book. You’re so right, it’s wonderful.

Next Time I Fall by Scarlett Cole is a rockstar romance about redemption, family and love!

If you have read the first book of this series, then you know about the bad boy of rock, Jase. He is a man angry at the world who always runs away from troubles and when he is in, he ignites. Many might have hated his character but I could see the hurt in him and Scarlett redeems him unexpectedly well.

Jase is the vocalist in his band and when they sign a contract, they move to US to start recording. He has to move on from the anger towards his brother that slept with the woman he fell for as also from the hurt of his past. What does this “dark cloud” of a man need? A little bit of sunshine and Cerys is all that and more.

Cerys never knew her father but when she needs a mentor for her work, she moves to Detroit as he is the best producer. He likes Jase’s face from the start but the man screams trouble. When they spend though a weekend together, she can see that there is more in him than the fights and the shouts.

I rooted for this couple from the beginning! I did not expect to see this whole change in Jase’s attitude but the man hid a pure romantic. Cerys helps him fight his demons and they encourage each other. I loved their honesty and passion, the fun banter between them as also the heartwarming feelings.

One thing I also admire is Scarlett’s writing. I love seeing the couple’s journey and the family dynamics. She knows how to show the process of falling in love and the maturity of the characters despite their faults always gets me.

I could not put down this book and I am already ready for the next story about Luke!

The 2nd book in the series by Scarlett Cole and it features the really grumpy, never where he is supposed to be brother, Jase. I have to say that I couldn't see how Scarlett will redeem this guy who always seems to say the crappy thing, and yes, I was surprised!

Let me start by saying that if I had Cerys in my life I would find her mildly annoying. This woman is always frigging happy and she always can find the silver lining. When she wallowed for a scene in the book I was out of this world relieved, she would have been mildly Mary Sue-ish otherwise... She was Jase's perfect counterpart though. He always said what he thought, and ALWAYS in an assholish way. It's like he didn't know how to put it otherwise the poor dude. I loved how Cerys saw underneath his manhole armor to the sensitive, talented guy.

I can't wait to read more(especially Ben's book)! I am so grateful that Ms Cole is being able to write these books so fast and I want to say a big thank you for the wonderful reading. I am having trouble concentrating on reading lately, but I never have this problem when reading one of her books.

Wow! There is a depth to Scarlett Cole’s writing that extends beyond the characters. This was an outstanding story that explored imposter syndrome and feelings of negative self-worth, not just from those who I was expecting it from, but from others as well.

While I appreciate the fact that the author put a lot of research into this, there were a number of info dumps of jargon and equipment names. Was a bit overkill.
The ML started off extremely unlikable, but about a third of the way through had a complete reversal, thankfully.
Will likely read more.

Thanks Scarlett Cole for the ARC.
I really enjoyed the first book of the new Scarlett series, but I liked this one even more.
Jase is an intense character who knows how to make you feel a wide range of emotions. I loved his relationship with his brother, with this book we better understand the tensions between them. Each story has two sides, two points of view. Jase seems to be short-tempered, but he saved a whole painful part of his life to himself. It eats him up inside and he expresses himself awkwardly. I really loved his story and his personality.
Cerys will push him to find another method of expression, she knows how to listen to him and make him speak. She supports him while always being honest with him. She is not afraid of his difficult character and she launches him on the road to healing. Together they form a great team, a great duo. Between them things go quite quickly but that didn't bother me because at one point they find themselves stuck in a house so they are together 24 hours a day. Jase recognizes very quickly that she is wonderful and that she embellishes his life. Cerys is quickly seduced by his sensitivity hidden behind a mask of insurance. Cerys has her own concerns to sort out, she has to make a name for herself with her father and in the music industry. Partly thanks to Jase she will prove that she is exceptional in her work, she will also make her voice heard. Cerys is a character that we can only love. I loved Jase's relationship with his Nan, I loved seeing him open up to his band, his family.
This novel is powerful in emotions and it can be read very easily.

This is the second book in the series, and I absolutely think that you need to read them in order. The set up in book one is essential to get the whole dynamic, the problems between the brothers, the relationships across the family, the importance of Nan, and the chance that they finally get to make it big due to, really, a fluke use of one of their songs online.

I love rock star romances; they are often gritty, most often due to drink and drugs. This story deals with the everyday issues of life, as well as the tough life of a band who earn their living working as decorators for an uncle, and lugging their kit around the country when they get gigs. Now as things are about to change, they are in the worst possible place within the band. I love how much detail we get, especially now that we are seeing things from Jase's perspective.

As we learn just how badly treated he was as a small child, it is difficult not to be heart-broken for him. That he got to the stage of being able to be open about it is all thanks to Cerys. She is a really lovely person, beautifully brought to life by the author. I was really invested in her gaining the experience she needed, as well as her getting through to Jase and making him understand how he could marry his talent with the band as a whole. It is delicious that they get to indulge in their mutual attraction, as well as the more practical breakthroughs.

I loved that he didn't suddenly change completely, and his bandmates couldn't quite believe the attitude reversal, even if they had a lot of regret. I am definitely excited to see how the rest of the guys will find their way to calmer lives. Cerys is going to be a great influence, that is for sure.

Really good read, thank you, Scarlett Cole.

Angry, volatile and acerbic, Jase isn’t great at relationships. At the end of the first book, he had fallen out with his band and his nan was the only person still talking to him. At the start of his own book, it is only his commitment to the band’s record deal that forces him to remain civil with his bandmates. Until Cerys. Cerys sees something in Jase that no one else does and she’s not afraid to tell him some necessary home truths.

I wasn’t quite sure how Jase was going to work as a romantic lead, but he’s surprisingly loveable. Like all of Scarlett Cole’s characters, there is trauma beneath his anger. His story isn’t easy, but it feels truthful and real. Cerys has her own demons and together they help each other make peace with their pasts.

I really love the behind the scenes look at record production and recording. Cerys’ passion for her work is amazing – it’s a process I’ve never really thought about and it was fascinating to learn about.

I love how Scarlett Cole has made this series wonderfully British. The details are exact, and parts of this series feel like a love letter to Manchester. There aren’t many writers who can convincingly switch between countries and cultures like Cole.

‘Next time I fall’ is the second book in the ‘Excess all areas’ series and although each story in this rock star series is about a different couple, I would recommend that you start this series from the beginning. That will give you more insight into the dynamics between Matt, Jase, Luke, Alex and Ben, the guys from the band.

Cerys, the main female character is a new character but if you have read the first book, than you will already know the main man character Jase. Jase is the lead singer of the music band Sad Fridays and the younger brother of Matt Palmer (who’s the main man character in the first book). In ‘One day like this’ we got to know Jase as a ‘bad’, troubled guy, someone who struggled with demons from his childhood, who can be aggressive at times because he tries to forget his pain by drinking and taking drugs. And who’s also the biggest risk to the band new, discovered success. So all that made me VERY curious about his story after reading the first book!!

Jase and his bandmates are finally getting their chance of becoming famous with their music. Everyone is excited about going to America to record a new album but Jase (and the other guys) also know that they aren’t there yet. And one of their problems is Jase attitude and aggression. After one heavy discussion in the music studio, Jase leaves with Cerys, the producer’s assistant, not knowing that spending a weekend with her will change his life forever. Cerys will teach him to stop running from his past and fears and to feel his pain and use that emotion in his music. Slowly, Jase is changing but it isn’t easy. Can Jase stay good? And is it really possible that a good girl like Cerys loves a guy like him? Only time can tell.

I really loved this couple and their story. Jase and Cerys were just perfect for each other. I can understand why they felt so quick and deeply for each other. Just like soulmates, they belonged together. Cerys had such a good influence on Jase. She was so positive, calm, cheerful, energetic and enthusiastic. You could really see Jase growing during the story and with Cerys help face his fears and problems. It was emotional and wonderful to see the brothers make peace with each other and to see Jase not only grow as a person but also as a musician. And once Jase choose for Cerys and their relationship, he totally went for it, nothing and nobody could stop him. Not the doubts of his surroundings nor Cerys’s father or even Cerys herself. She was it for him and Jase had no doubt! I also liked the side story of Cerys and her father Jimmy Bexter, a famous producer. She grew up without him but now they get another chance to have a father-daughter relationship.
The story was emotional at times but it was never too much. It had the perfect balance between light-hearted, funny moments and emotional ones. You got both POV’s in the story.

I’m very happy that the writer decided to start this series before the guys got famous. Because one of the things that I like very much about this series is that it shows the guys’ struggles to become famous. We read about their insecurities, their doubts, their hopes and dreams. We don’t only see them grow as individuals but also as musicians. I really love this series and I can’t wait to read the next story.

There is NO cheating in this work.

With sensitivity and hope Scarlett Cole forges on with Next Time I Fall, the second installment of her Excess All Areas series, for a great addition!

If anyone could turn someone who seemed destined for villainy and self sabotage into not just an anti-hero but a full-fledged hero it is Scarlett Cole. Coming into this work the outlook for Jase Palmer, lead singer and walking disaster, was not looking good. His previous interactions in book one of this series, One Day Like This, were fraught with discord and anger and a stream of seemingly endless petty behavior. Jase was someone who shielded his pain and inner wounds with a bravado that most saw as arrogant and not worth the time to question. Yet with caring and chances this writer brought out a side of this character hidden by other's prejudicial perceptions that allowed him to take ownership of his path and give him a chance to not only show his potential but actually reach it.

Cerys Hughes-Bexter was the barely acknowledged daughter of legendary music producer Jimmy Bexter. A musical talent in her own right, Cerys decided to reach out to her father in the hopes that the experience of working with him would open doors to her own career aspirations and a real relationship with him. Quickly she discovered that she had her work cut out for as she fought to be acknowledged not only as Jimmy's daughter but for the skill set she brought with her. As so often is the case with Ms. Coles's heroines, they come with many strengths both obvious and hidden, Cerys was no exception. With tenacity and a smile she took on the obstacles put in front of her, including the sullen lead singer of the Sad Fridays. This character was wonderfully vulnerable yet capable at the same time. Taking chances and standing by her instincts and conclusions Cerys was someone willing to fight for what she believed in.

The dynamic between Jase and Cerys was genuinely sweet and touching, even as they generated a significant amount of steam. As they each took the time to truly see each other they evolved into a once in a lifetime love without losing their credibility by ignoring their personal baggage. They pushed and pulled each other, challenging themselves all the while and forming a bond that made them near invincible even in their weakest moments. Their ability to see the other's need to reach their personal goals and keep their individuality even while merging into a relationship was well done by this author.

Scarlett Cole taps into dysfunction and pain like a direct hit to the heart. Feelings come pulsing out of her work and every decision, good or bad, feels like a jolt keeping her stories compelling to her readers. This writer's audience never feel like they are walking away at the end of one of her books with anything but her very best. Next Time I Fall brings all of Scarlett Cole's enormous talent to the forefront for a great read!

*I was given an advanced copy. All opinions expressed are my own. *
*While this book can be read as a standalone it is recommended to read the previous work(s) of this series for the best reading experience.*

I’ve fallen madly in love with Jase Palmer and it was not something I was expecting in all honesty. This guy sneaked up on me without any warning and stole my heart. Next Time I Fall is Jase and Cerys’ story and it has been an absolute pleasure to spend time with, and learn more about them both - although there are some moments that will definitely tug on your heartstrings.

I would highly recommend that you read One Day Like This before this book. Next Time I fall is a continuation of Sad Fridays’ journey and I do feel that readers will benefit from having read Matt’s story as they will have a greater understanding of the history of the band, and the relationships amongst the band members and other characters too. Should you decide to start the series with Next Time I Fall I can assure you that the author does remind us of past events. However, as expected, it is not with the depth of detail that the first book offers.

Cerys is an incredible person who I cannot wait for you to meet. I absolutely adore this young woman. I wish she could bottle up some of her positivity and ship it to me! I love how much this story highlighted her own personal journey. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed every moment spent with her.

I adore the relationship that has developed between Jase and Cerys. They complement each other perfectly and I love the support they give each other. The change in Jase has been incredible to witness. I love that Cerys sees Jase and how she is able to entice the best out of him. Cerys has a very mature head on her shoulders which works well with Jase’s personality as he often adds a touch of humour in a situation. I cannot deny that they have fabulous chemistry too.

I have grown very fond of, and have loved spending more time with all the band members and their close circle. I’m loving following the journey that Sad Fridays are taking and cannot wait to see what happens next for them all!

Next Time I fall is another must-read story by Scarlett Cole and I award it 4.5 stars. The epilogue gives us a taste of what to expect in Luke’s story - which is titled How Good It Was. He’s the band member that I am most concerned about and I desperately would love to see him find contentment. I’m looking forward to reading his story which releases in February 2022.

5* read.
This is the second book in the Excess All Areas series. I would say it probably could be read as a standalone but you should really read book one in this series first to better understand the characters (especially Jase). I just don't think you'd get the same from this book without reading One Day Like This first.
So this is Jase and Cerys story. They go on a real journey throughout this book. Jase is a really troubled character, very angry at everything especially at Matt which is obviously causing a lot of tension in the band. You see him grow up a lot throughout this book, aswell as learn how to deal with the waves more (you'll understand what I mean by waves after reading the book). Cerys is trying to have a relationship with her dad Jimmy who has never been around. Both dealing with their own issues and drama but find themselves gravitating towards each other. The chemistry and sexual tension was obvious from the start and you really want these two to be together but also to sort out their own dramas.
I really enjoyed Jase and Cerys story. Its pact full of so many emotions and beautifully wrote by a really talented author. I can't wait for Lukes story next year, especially after that little sneak peak at the end.

Excellent Rock Romance

If you are looking for a rock romance that will break your heart just to put it back together again this is the book for you. Jase is the lead singer of an up-and-coming band, Sad Fridays. He has been known for his tantrums and is not playing well with others but its understandable when you find out that the woman, he is in love with just happens to be his brother and band mate’s woman. Not only that but Jase has to sing the songs his brother wrote about the very same woman.

Cerys loves music and is heading to the U.S. to work with her absentee father who is a record producer. She’s such a nice person and is the person to help put Jase back together again after he jumped in her car after another of his outbursts. They headed to her father’s lake house and they are snowed in. She’s there to help him deal with his past and turn all this into music to help him deal with his issues.

I love this author’s work and this book is no exception. Grab your copy today.

Enjoyed this one too. While I think Jase seemed to switch gears rather quickly it was a cute book. He was sweet with Cerys I loved how he stood up to her dad. Along with her dad, I'm glad they delved into that relationship and that he got better as the book went by.

Overall a good story.

Next Time I Fall

Excess All Areas #2

Scarlett Cole

November 16th 2021

Jase

I know, I know.... I'm late to the party... But I had a lot to deal with. But now I finally got the time to read Next Time I Fall (Excess All Areas #2) by Scarlett Cole. And you know what...... It was fantastic! I know... that's no suprise, because all books from Scarlett are amazing. This series got something special. I don't know if it's the anger or the hate between each character, but there is this energy that you can't ignore.

I was really excited for this grumpy and broken hero. I also loved the spirited heroine. Even if they didn't know it, they were just perfext for each other. And despite all these strong emotions the love between them is is only growing.

So now I'm catching up on the third book from this series and I'm so excited!

4.5 stars

Next Time I Fall is one of those books that gets to you. Your heart and emotions are tugged, broken, and have you smiling in the end. It is a beautifully written story of growth, learning to love, and family. The characters are far from perfect but are real. Jase and Cerys’s story is one I am still thinking about days later.

We get a teaser for Luke’s story, but I am unsure if it can top Jase.

Thank you to the author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.

🌊☀️5 Sunshine and Wave Stars☀️🌊
I love these characters and the emotional journey I went on with them!
It’s a story with the characters on the cusp of achieving their goals and dreams or losing everything they’ve dreamed of and worked towards.
This is the second book in the author’s Excess All Areas series(One Day Like This is first book in the series.
You can read my review for that book here ➡️ https://www.goodreads.com/review/show... )

In the first book Jase seemed like an entitled jerk with impulsive and damaging behavior. I just KNEW he was a tortured soul that I’d fall for, and I absolutely did fall for him in this book!
His anger and resentment are feelings that come from very understandable places when they are revealed.
Jase acts surly and impulsive. He seems like the stereotypical rock ‘n’ roll lead singer who’s arrogant and destructive.
He’s so much more underneath his cocky, brash and ill tempered facade.
He’s really kind, generous and thoughtful.
He’s got a wicked sense of humor.
He is fun and playful, it’s really so endearing.
He’s very sexy and talented.
He’s the kind of damaged hero I love!
He’s had a traumatic past and he’s filled with resentment and self doubt. When he feels challenged or hurt he goes on the offensive in big ways.
Jase is the lead singer of the band The Sad Fridays. Along with his older brother Matt, their two cousins and his brother’s best friend, they’ve been putting in the work for a long time to keep their band going. They are rough around the edges Manchester guys with big hearts and personalities.
They get an incredible opportunity to go to the US and record their first studio album with a famous producer.

Cerys is from the UK as well as the band, she’s a musician and musical engineer. Her absentee father is the famous music producer in the US that the band is working with.
She recently decided to work for her father to get some experience in the industry to hopefully help her achieve her goal of owning and running her own recording studio. She’s also hoping she might connect with her father in some meaningful way. She has a lot of conflicting feelings about her dad and the situation.
This is what brings these characters together in snowy Detroit, USA.
Cerys is the sunshine to Jase’s dark, stormy clouds.
She’s kind, intelligent and determined. She’s a bit quirky and she’s extremely funny.
She’s a perfect combination of a real sweetheart and a woman with a strong backbone. I really loved her!
Together the two are a fiery mix.
They are both passionate and strong willed.
I love the way they challenge each other, they bring out each other’s strengths. They help each other face their demons.
I love the way the author writes. It’s mature, no unnecessary drama and it’s still full of big emotions.
Heart wrenching at times and moments of big break throughs for the characters.
The character growth is so emotional and satisfying.
The chemistry between Jase and Cerys is butterfly inducing.
It’s steamy and sweet. Playful and sexy.
I swooned many times and felt giddy over their romance.
It’s the perfect combination for me, I love their romance so very much!
It has all the wonderful feelings of first real love.
It’s cute, playful and heartfelt.
Their dynamic is really adorable, I love the grumpy/sunshine aspect. It makes the tender and fun times that much more satisfying.
The way their relationship develops is so fulfilling and a gorgeous thing. I have a soft spot for these characters and I was thrilled with how their story plays out!
The secondary characters are fantastic! The guys all will get books, they are important to all the characters and the overall story.
Nan makes appearances, she’s a favorite of mine. She’s the one who stepped in and raised Jase and Matt and she’s their heart. She’s a real firecracker!
I can’t wait for the next book(s) I really love these characters and the way the author tells their stories is impressive, satisfying and so enjoyable!

Next Time I Fall is the second book in Scarlett Cole’s Excess All Areas series. It’s not really a standalone because you do need to read the first book to understand the dynamics of the group.
A friends to lovers, slightly forbidden, rockstar romance which continues the story of the band Sad Fridays and the women the band members fall for. This time it is lead singer Jase Palmer and from the ending of One Day Like This, we know he has some issues and caused tension between the band members. The problems between them are deep seated and will take an enormous effort on all their parts to sort out but hopefully getting the longed for record deal will pull them together.

Jase at the start is surly and gruff, he has angry outburst and is really living up to his bad boy image. Although he is Matt’s brother there was a chance they were going to drop him due to his attitude but luckily the whole band has travelled to Detroit to record their first album. He feels the band is the only thing he has in his life now and when he’s on stage it is the only time he feels alive.

Cerys is currently in Detroit learning how to be a producer at her father’s studio. They have been estranged all her life but she is determined to learn from him and gain the experience she needs.
She is a very positive character, with her motivational quotes and her sunshine outlook on life.
She is captivated by Jase the moment she sees him but once he sings she’s a goner. She sees Jase is full of anger and in conflict with Matt and Luke. He is so talented but seems confused and in need of something but she can’t work out what. She sees his vulnerability and is positive he is a good man underneath his facade but has to remember he’s a client. Cerys sees a rawness in the band and notices how the record label is trying to make them something they aren’t.

One day while recording he can’t take it anymore and storms out of the studio and literally crashes into Cerys. They end up going on a road trip to her dad’s cabin and spend time together.
They both find out some really interesting things about each other and realise they have some serious chemistry going on. Jase ends up telling her the history of the band and his problems with Matt and Luke. He also confesses about his childhood trauma, all his insecurities and worries.

“The next time I fall I won’t feel like I’m on my own.”

Cerys really listens to him and suggests ways to help him. The more they chat, the more she falls for him and the more determined she becomes to prove to him that he is good enough and a gifted musician. Luckily it turns out there a studio there so they experiment with songs and she encourages him to write some lyrics. It is very emotional reading as he works through everything he’s hidden away for years. I loved he bared his soul to her and they made them into lyrics.

Their banter was brilliant and his sense of humour is so amusing. I loved how she repeated everything he said when she was nervous. I felt once Cerys got hold of Jase every conversation became like a song. He pours his heart out and you can see how they become lyrics. The way he manages at last to express himself was a real fist punching moment. Follow their journey as they try to figure out everything and he tries to mend bridges with the rest of the band. Cerys has to juggle her feelings for Jase while working at the studio and developing a relationship with her father. Can she turn Jase around and make him become the man he wants to be? Can he learn to accept the repercussions for his actions? Will they be able to expand on their feelings and have a relationship? What will happen when he returns to Manchester? Will they manage to finish the album they want to record?

I thoroughly enjoyed reading about Jase and Cerys, and their unexpected connection but be prepared for some heart breaking and painful revelations amongst the sweet music they create. To me this is a story about relationships. The author explores relationships based on family, friends and intimacy but she also gives us new relationships being formed, old ones being repaired and others starting to crack and fall apart. The author leads us into the next in the series by showing how Luke is over indulging and that everyone is worried about him as he is taking the sex, drugs and rock’n’roll lifestyle too far. The shock in the epilogue could just end up being the lifeline he needs so I think it’s going to be a rollercoaster of a story.

Jase ends up telling her the history of the band and his problems with Matt and Luke. He also confesses about his childhood trauma, all his insecurities and worries.

A British rockstar romance.

I loved this story. The characters were great and it may be because I'm biased because the lads are from Manchester which is my neck of the woods so I easily connected with them and the upbringing each one of them had had.

"They understood the value of a pint with friends, and that family mattered"

Jase's journey is heartwarming, he's basically a hothead, an unpredictable guy who easily flies off the handle.

After years of touring small pubs and bars and finally getting recognised as a band, all the guys from Sad Friday's fly over to America to produce an album. I loved how Jase met Cerys who is the studio producer's estranged daughter, the flirtation, the attraction versus hate thing they had going on in the beginning when they first met.

Cery's has her own story to tell too, and what I can say about Cery's is that she is the kind of woman who does not let anything get her down. She's a strong confident woman who began to help Jase to see past his insecurities, she showed him how to ride through the hurts from his past, in the hopes of preventing them from affecting his future.

Jase's words touched my heart, I loved this quote
“You’re the constant. You rise and set. And me, I just crash around you.”

Jase's and Cery's journey doesn't reach the married with kids stage of their relationship but they do reach a happy kind of ending and I am looking forward to seeing more of them in the next book.

The band's journey to their impending success is one to be excited about. The author doesn't give too much away regarding the first book in the series or about the other characters so it leaves me wanting to know more, in fact, there is one character in this story that when I thought about her and her potential in her having her own story, it gave me goosebumps. It's been a while since I read a book about someone with hearing impairment or deafness and I would imagine her story to be moving, especially if it involves music.

In summary, this is a heartwarming read that has its moments of redemption, forgiveness, healing, along with the hot and funny moments. Next Time I Fall is told in the third person dual pov which isn't my favorite way of reading, I do prefer the first person and getting into the character's thoughts but it didn't stop my enjoyment of this story. All in all, I am looking forward to more.

Can be read as a stanalone.
