Today's active shooter incidents demand that fire/EMS departments operate within the warm/hot zones typically occupied solely by law enforcement. Using case studies, analysis, and fire/EMS/law enforcement experience, this session will discuss how to establish a rescue task force (RTF) in your jurisdiction, how to train and plan with local law enforcement, and how to operate in the blurred lines and gray areas of today's active shooter incidents, where the red team meets the blue team.

Learning Objectives:

  • Attendees will review a history of active shooter incidents to establish baseline considerations.
  • Participants will discuss the value of rescue task forces (RTF's) and how to establish them in their jurisdictions.
  • Attendees will learn the role and value of medics in law enforcement operations.
  • Participants will discuss fire/EMS and law enforcement perspectives during active shooter incidents.
