New Report Highlights Unique Housing Challenges Faced by Grandfamilies
At last week's (Nov. 13) event at the Plaza West apartments in Washington, D.C., Generations United released our 2019 State of Grandfamilies report, A Place to Call Home: Building Affordable Housing for Grandfamilies . Across the United States, more than 2.65 million children live in grandfamilies - families in which grandparents, other adult family members or close family friends are raising children - with no parents in the home.  Frequently, these families come together at a moment's notice. In an instant, the home of the new grandfamily is inadequate for their suddenly expanded household. This sixth edition of the annual State of Grandfamilies in America report detailed the housing challenges these families face and highlighted innovative programs that offer potential for nationwide expansion. Download the report and check out our recap

Theoretical Orientations to Intergenerational Home Sharing
Implications for Direct Social Work Practice on Addressing Student Debt and Aging-in-Community
There is growing momentum to intergenerational home sharing among older adults and college students but little scholarship on the topic. An article recently published by Donna Butts (Generations United), Ernest Gonzales (New York University), et al "unpacks" theories in the area and highlight barriers and facilitators that could help scale these promising programs nationwide. " Theoretical Orientations to Intergenerational Home Sharing with Implications for Direct Social Work Practice" is published in the Clinical Social Work Journal. The article may be purchased or rented but can be obtained without charge through January 1, 2019 by constituents of Generations United via email request to geg2000@nyu.edu. Cool Ideas
Venice Family Clinic
To serve their low-income patients, Venice Family Clinic relies on volunteer physicians, who are often retired from their own medical practices. But the complexity of the clinic's digital medical records were an obstacle to keeping them - until they paired these physicians with volunteer scribes interested in a career in medicine. These intergenerational  pairs learn from each other as they serve the community. Watch this video to learn more.
