A Day In The Life Of A Butte Professional

There’s a diverse array of businesses in Butte – from jobs at Montana Tech, to aerospace welding, to companies like FedEx or REC Silicon.

While the ins and outs of the workday vary from job to job, there are some key aspects that stay the same. Here’s a typical day in the life of a Butte professional:

7:30 a.m.

Kick yourself into shape at Keep it Real Crossfit.

Crossfit isn’t only a sport for major metropolises. Find community while burning calories at Keep it Real Crossfit gym. You’ll thank yourself when you’re barely out of breath traversing the nearby Beartooth mountains this summer.

Commute to the office

Butte is a town of 30,000. Traffic is not a problem. The average commute is less than fifteen minutes; you can carve out 20 if you want to stop at one of the drive-thru coffee kiosks along the way. And we suggest you do — these local Montana joints serve incredible coffee (with real espresso machines, unlike the automatic ones you’ll find at Starbucks).

10 a.m.

Meeting with a thriving, local business

Butte is the gateway to the west and because of this attracts a large conglomerate of businesses. Being situated at the intersection of Interstate Highways 15 and 90, along both the Union Pacific and Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroads means major commercial shipping companies call Butte home (like FedEx), while the exceptional, highly-educated labor force feeds the manufacturing industry (like REC Silicon and Montana Precision Products).

The Butte community is a supportive one. Meeting with these successful businesses, and potentially working with one, will only bolster your own success.

Lunch

Enjoy a break from work and a delicious lunch at one of the famous eateries in Butte. The Front Street Market is a great place for a quick bite — with delicious, gourmet sandwiches at affordable prices. Take your sandwich to go then  sneak in a walk along one of the beautiful trails in the Silverbow Creek Greenway.

1:30 p.m.

Meeting with the Butte Local Development Corporation

The Butte Local Development Corporation is dedicated to helping Butte businesses succeed, no matter what sector its in. They serve as a liaison between business and government — helping you gain access to grants and tax incentives, while providing you with up-to-date market research.

There are real people behind the Butte Local Development Corporation. Setting up meetings with team members (who you’ll get to know) is common practice.

5:15 p.m.

Drinks with coworkers
Small towns are known for having tight-knit communities full of kind, friendly people. Butte is no exception. Catch drinks with your coworkers that you actually like at Headframe Spirits, a local distillery. Plan your next great outdoor adventure, talk smack about the Orediggers’ rivals or simply shoot the the breeze.

6:30 p.m.

Star Lanes with the kids

There are numerous reasons Butte is a great place to raise a family (the school system, for one), but a second reason is there is no shortage of family entertainment. Butte’s bowling alley, Star Lanes, is fun for families and the nearby Silver Bow Drive-In theater is always a treat, no matter your age.

And you won’t have to wait long for even more exciting entertainment. Major festivals are always around the corner.

In Butte, you’re unlikely to get a “Case of the Mondays” because, with a workday like this, Mondays might just be your favorite part of the week.
