Equity in the Schoolhouse: The Policies and Practices
Date and time
Location
Educational Testing Service (ETS)
1800 M Street Suite 425 (South Building) Washington, DC 20036Description
For nearly three decades, the Institute for Student Achievement (ISA), a division of Educational Testing Service (ETS), has partnered with schools and districts to transform high schools for traditionally underserved and underachieving students. ISA believes that the only way to accomplish this transformation is to enhance educational equity.
Moving to a more equitable system demands that we:
- Recognize the historical conditions and barriers that have prevented opportunity and access for students who have been traditionally marginalized
- Examine and deconstruct current practices and policies through the lens of equity
- Evaluate a school’s or district’s capacity to move forward as a learning community
- Strategize to create a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive agenda for all stakeholders
Join ISA for a thoughtful and thought-provoking conversation on how the drive for equity impacts and is being impacted by federal and state policy and how it is being made part of practice in schools and districts across the country. We will also discuss the importance of networking with three members of the Southern Education Foundation’s Racial Equity Leadership Network and how that network supported them to lead through a more focused lens on equity.
