April Newsletter
The COVID-19 pandemic has affected the globe greatly. This has caused the inmates to worry about their families. We thank everyone who's reached out to us and also supported us in any way. We pray for you all and hope that the situation stabilizes very soon.
WELLS OF HOPE UGANDA
Hope Behind Bars
On April 26th, high protein maize flour, sugar and potatoes were delivered to inmates at Upper prison Luzira and Women prison Luzira. The supplements were delivered to benefit pregnant women, breastfeeding women, babies in prison, the elderly and inmates living with HIV & AIDS. We thank all our sponsors for their support at such a time!
Situation Of The Children

Following the closure of schools in March, most children travelled back to their villages while 36 children remained at Wells of Hope Junior Schools because some do not have homes to go to while others would be at risk; their caregivers who are mainly elderly grandmothers do not have food to feed them.

We thank everyone who’s rendered support to the children at school; they are fed and receive other welfare packages like medical care, shelter, among other needs.

Through phone calls, we are in touch with the children who went back to their villages. 12 families have received food supplies in monetary terms ($15); the caregivers were extremely happy!

How We Are Coping
Without your contribution, we would not be able to do all this; thank you so much!
WELLS OF HOPE WOMEN SAFE HOME
Residents At The Home

At the time we registered the first case in Uganda, we had one lady who was staying at the safe home and was awaiting to travel to her village which is about 500kms away from the main city. She was thus discharged from the safe home and we helped her with some facilitation to help her travel as it is what she required to reunite with her family. As of now, we have no resident at the safe home.

We are as in close contact with the prison welfare officials who unite us with the ladies in prison that would like to communicate with the safe home. We were expecting six(6) women to be released from both Luzira and Jinja prisons during the month of April and had shown interest in being sheltered at the safe home. We are trying to seek permission to allow us arrange with the prison officers to at least help the women that are leaving prison to reach their homes and for those that had requested to come to the safe home to be picked as well.

Kindness is a wonderful way to let another struggling soul know that there is still love in this world.
  1. We are in need of more support for the children at Wells of Hope Junior School; food and medicine.
  2. Out of the 52 families that strive to get what to eat, 12 families have received food supplies in monetary terms (USD15). 40 families are in need of food; the caregivers are extremely worried for their well-being especially for the children under their care. With your contribution, you will provide food to a family that is starving.
  3. Over 400 inmates are living with HIV & AIDS. Babies in prison, expectant women and elderly inmates are in need of more food supplies. Currently, the correctional centres are closed to any visitors; even charities and inmates relatives who used to provide the inmates with special nutritional food.
  4. The formerly incarcerated women especially those who had just moved into the community lack food. Some had petty jobs from which they had made some savings, but unfortunately their savings are now finished and due to the pandemic, the jobs are no more.

WELLS OF HOPE KENYA

Following closure of schools in March, children with parents in prison continue to remain in dilemma as Coronavirus sweeps across the country. A big number of households in Kenya are headed by children as a result of parental imprisonment; and are experiencing high level of poverty and most children end up joining street life due to lack of basic needs.

The lockdown has disrupted several sectors. Most people are now working from home; companies have been closed. Our children and their families are going without food; if they are lucky, it is one meal a day, which is breakfast. We appreciate any support; to donate, click the donate button below;

We are extremely grateful to you for your continued support for the work that we do; especially during this time. We are hopeful that this situation shall come to pass very soon.
