2019 State D4 Champions in Girls Basketball

The Cathedral Panthers girls varsity basketball team extended their dominance of division 4 basketball in Massachusetts, claiming their third state crown in four years. Coach Clinton Lassiter and the team sailed to a 65-36 victory over Hopkins Academy at Worcester Polytechnic Institute on Saturday afternoon capping off a 22-2 season for the Panthers.

“Athletics is a great way for student athletes and the community to come together,” said Dr. Oscar Santos, Head of School at Cathedral. “We are very proud of the team’s accomplishments in the classroom and on the court.”

In the MIAA D4 State Finals game, the Panthers never trailed. For CHS seniors Amani Boston, Dejah Jenkins, and Kaiya Duverna, the state championship would become the last of six straight wins to close their high school careers on a high note and putting up 17, 10, and 8 points each, respectively.

Additional coverage of the championship appeared in The Boston Globe and in the Boston Herald.

Dr. Santos added “We want to thank the board, staff, alumni, families and our students for supporting the team and our school.” As a philanthropy-based, independent Catholic school, all enriching, extracurricular activities including athletics are made possible by benefactors. Gifts of any amount support athletics that play a major role in building character, teamwork, and confidence for Cathedral scholars.
