Description
Several hours before I took this photo, it was hailing at this beach and the wind blowing so hard I could barely open the car door. Needless to say, we delayed the start of a hike for a little while! But during the hike, it rained, then stopped raining, and rained again. At the end of the hike, it had stopped raining so I ventured onto the beach for some photos. Since it was difficult to tell from the map exactly what this beach was named, we later christened it Concussion Beach. Bouys for anchoring boats were secured way above the high tide mark so that their anchor lines crossed the beach at low tide. I must have been overly excited that the sun was finally shining because as luck would have it, I tripped over one of the lines and before I knew it my head cracked against a rock on the beach. My thoughts came quickly, in no particular order: 1) do I have a concussion? 2) am I going to have to use my medical evacuation insurance? 3) is my camera OK? 4) I don’t want to be evacuated, we just started out trip! 5) I’ve never had a head injury in my life, why me, why now? 6) I’ve never even tripped and not been able to recover my footing. 7) Why did I have to hit the one rock on the beach? (Really there were more, but there was WAY more sandy area). After I finished the pity party, I could answer no, no, and yes to the three most important questions. Then I picked myself up, brushed off the sand, and carried on, albeit with a big bump on my head!
