Why employee advocacy isn't a silver bullet In this blog I explain (with research) why posting brochures and white papers on social is doing your brand damage. And explain what high performing businesses are doing on social. It's ironic. I'm on social because the sales director of one of my suppliers told me that I should be. For the first 9 months when I did very little and I only had a few connections his posts would appear on my feed every day. He always posted brochures. So I thought right, that's what you do to promote your business on social. I didn't have any brochures to post so I didn't post Then I got active He no longer appears on my feed. I guess the Algorithm does not like his brochures. I have to say I don't miss his posts.

Great call-outs, Timothy! I see this all the time, marketers/PR people/sales trying to force employees to share whatever the corporate campaign is sharing. WRONG. I've had great success sharing about MY work, MY teammates, MY experience with leadership at the company. Do I include links to company-owned properties? Sometimes. Do I tag my company? Usually. But do readers feel like I'm "selling" something to them? NOPE. When you let employees share their work and experiences, you build trust and credibility.

No one wants to read a brochure! Not in social media anyway. Yes!

For organizations to get employee advocacy to deliver results, they must trust their people. Now, if they don't trust their people, there are some other issues that will need to be worked out.

It amazing to watch organisations who are losing on social by constantly posting awful corporate drone, believe that the correct reaction to the failure is to have more people posting awful corporate drone...

Really timely blog Timothy - well showing your availability to get top talent is always a challenge, however at the present time with news about constraints in job markets I'd say it's even more important to demonstrate that your organisation is worth joining.
