10 signs you have fallen asleep on your career
1. You have not looked at your resume since before the pandemic.
2. Your friends tell you, “You could get a better job,” but you tune them out.
3. When people ask how your job is going, you say, “It’s a job,” or, “Same old, same old.”
4. You sometimes dream about doing something different, but you have no idea what that might be.
5. If someone asked your teammates what one word they would choose to describe you, they would say, “Reliable.”
6. You spend time every day thinking about retirement, although retirement is still years away.
7. You stay busy with activities and social events so you don’t have time to dwell on the question, What do I want from my life and career?
8. When doubts about your path and your future crop up in your mind, you quiet that voice by telling yourself, “A lot of people have it worse than I do.”
9. There’s still a part of you that wants to bust out but maybe if you ignore it, it will go away.
10. Deep down, you know you are kidding yourself.
Everybody falls asleep on their career at some point.
You can wake up!
You can shake yourself out of your slumber and take charge of your career and your life.
You can get a better job, change careers if you want to and have a dramatically better life one year from now.
You only need to take the first step.
