Clydesdales’ visit celebrates Kansas selling strong beer
Anheuser-Busch is so happy about Kansas' new liquor laws it is sending its famous Budweiser Clydesdales to the Kansas Statehouse for a symbolic delivery.
Anheuser-Busch said the trip to the capitol in Topeka at 1:15 p.m. Thursday recalls the Clydesdales' trip to Washington, D.C., in 1933 when they marked the end of Prohibition with a delivery to President Franklin Roosevelt.
Anheuser-Busch's regional vice president of sales Simon Wuestenberg; Sales Director Sean Maher; and Kansas House Speaker Ron Ryckman (R-Olathe) will be on hand for their arrival. In addition to the visit, brewery officials will present a plaque with a Clydesdale horseshoe to Ryckman.
On April 1, Kansas' liquor laws changed to allow grocery stores and convenience stores to sell beer with an alcohol content higher than the 3.2%. They can now sell beer with an alcohol content as high as 6%.
