Tuesday, April 23

In honor of Kansas Craft Beer Week, Red Crow Brewing Company (1062 West Santa Fe Drive) is hosting Defiance Brewing Company out of Hays, Kansas, for a brewer meet-and-greet and a tapping featuring two of Defiance’s beers: Udderly Handsome Milk Stout and Twisted Logic IPA. The event runs from 5:30-10 p.m.

Few places in Kansas City do as much justice to wine as the Antler Room (2506 Holmes), and tonight’s specialty wine dinner is a perfect occasion to take a deep dive with owners Leslie and Nick Goellner. This dinner features four courses and six wines from two different winemakers: Brick And Mortar And Little Frances. The dinner is $85 a person, not including tax or gratuity. Friday, April 26

As part of the Historic West Bottoms’ 5th Annual Heritage Week, Chef John Smith of EJ’s Urban Eatery (1414 West 9th Street) is hosting a “Wettest Block” Pig Roast, with food and drink specials available from 5-10 p.m. Other events this week include the Signature Legends Dinner (this year honoring Mayor Sly James), a picnic, West Bottoms tours, and the “Bottoms Up” arts festival. Ride your bike tonight to Free State Brewing Company’s Eastside Brewery (1927 Moodie Road) for the “Trails that Connect Us” event, which aims to connect visitors with outdoor resources and amenities. It’s a Free State-sponsored event, so there will be lots of beer, food, and live music available as well. The event runs from 5-8 p.m., and organizations including the Friends of Lawrence Area Trails, Sunflower Outdoor and Bike Shop, and Lawrence Unchained Bicycle Co-Op will be represented. This is a free event.

Enjoy five courses of beer and appetizers tonight at Crane Brewing Company (6515 Railroad Street). Chef Chad Tillman is preparing the bites, and among the selections are a white cheddar mac and cheese with crispy shallots and ancho chili toasted pumpkin seeds (paired with Trail Smith); pork carnitas with a creamy jalapeño and grilled lime slaw pickled onion (Orange Gose); and Philly cheesesteak brat with peppers, onions, and white cheddar sauce (Tea Weiss). Saturday, April 27

Don’t miss one of the region’s best beer festivals today in Parkville. The 16th Annual Parkville Microbrew Festival marks the beginning of the summer at its new location in Platte Landing Park (300 South Main Street, Parkville). Sample beer from over 80 breweries, including BKS Artisan Ales, City Barrel, Cosmic Eye, Perennial Artisan Ales Farnham House, and many, many more. Food trucks from Speedy Tacos, Taste of Brazil, and Cajun Cabin will also be present. Tickets are $40 in advance, $50 at the gate.
