D.C.–based Upright Labs creates software solutions to support the secondhand reseller industry’s supply chain and ecommerce efforts.

Entrepreneurs and technologists David Engle and Jackson Geller cofounded the company in December 2017 but both broke into the tech world at a young age.

Engle founded his first nonprofit at the age of 14 called Carnivals for Children On Wheels that brought free events to thousands of underprivileged children. Geller began coding and building programs at the age of 15.

Engle is the CEO of the business while Geller works as the company’s CTO. The pair launched Upright Labs after working for more than five years in ecommerce and noticing that resale companies have inventory to sell online but lack streamlined supply chain processes and software.

In October, the tech company went public with its premiere products, Upright Lister and Local, for the resale industry with a focus to improve supply chain management, inventory management, and ecommerce distribution, Max Weiner who works in business development at the Upright Labs, told Technical.ly.

With Upright Lister, resellers have been able to decrease their listing times by up to 75 percent, while also distributing their products to various e-commerce marketplaces in just one click, the company explained in a statement. Upright Local enables resale stores to better market their large, in-store pickup only items by facilitating pictures and listing all from a mobile app.

Upright Labs focuses on creating solutions for secondhand resellers and are currently being used by a number of Goodwill regions and Habitat for Humanity restores. In partnering with Goodwill enterprises nationwide, the company said that over 325, 000 items have been listed and it has generated over $9 million in sales in 10 different regions and 500 stores through its software.

“We believe Upright Lister and Upright Local can change the operations for secondhand resellers and save them time by consistently and efficiently listing their great inventory online,” David Engle said in a statement. “I lacked an efficient way to list items. Over the years, that has evolved into a full product suite which we spent the last year testing alongside a handful of Goodwill regions to improve and fit their enterprise needs. I am very proud of what we have built and the impact our software is making as we watch the number of listings and items sold increase daily.”

Upright Labs hopes to expand their customer base within the secondhand resale industry with the public launch of Upright Lister and Local. Both software products are already being used at Goodwill locations, and the company is looking to sign on additional reseller organizations.
