Minister says more large-scale construction deals are on the way

KiwiBuild strikes deal with Mike Greer Homes for 104 units

KiwiBuild has partnered with major residential developer Mike Greer Homes to build 104 KiwiBuild units in West Auckland and Christchurch.

The partnership will see a range of new KiwiBuild homes including 11 two-bedroom standalone homes in Kaiapoi for $360,000, which are said to be the cheapest KiwiBuild has announced so far. Other homes will be built in Huapai, Whenuapai, Pukekohe, Kaiapoi, Rolleston, Pegasus, Woodend, Rangiora, Halswell, Marshland, and Spreydon. These are expected to be completed until mid-2020 and are a mix of two and three bedroom standalone and terraced homes, ranging from $360,000 to $650,000.

This agreement shows KiwiBuild is gathering momentum, according to Minister of Housing and Urban Development Phil Twyford.

“I hope these 104 homes will be just the first of many we will build with Mike Greer over the coming years,” Twyford said. “Mike has a strong commitment to affordable housing.”

“Mike Greer has been building while the details have been hammered out, meaning the first homes are already ready to sell,” he noted.

The deal includes the first KiwiBuild homes in Christchurch. This is part of the government’s plan to ensure house prices there remain stable and that forecasted strong demand for more homes will be met, the minister added.
