Artwork auction raises £100,000 for architectural charity

Architectural charity Article 25 sold 100 pieces of art from contributors including David Adjaye, Kengo Kuma and Ken Shuttleworth at its annual 10x10 fundraiser held in London last week.

All the pieces produced were inspired by a journey along the capital’s under-construction Elizabeth Line.

A painting of a cloud by US artist Spencer Finch fetched the highest price tag, going for £12,000 on the night.

Creations by Scottish 1996 Turner Prize winner Douglas Gordon, 2006 Charles Wollaston Award winner Chantal Joffe and Angel of the North sculptor Antony Gormley brought in another £22,000 between them.

Artwork from 2000 Stirling Prize winner Will Alsop – who died earlier this year – sold for £3,200. David Adjaye’s Dirty House Shoreditch diagram fetched £2,000, and an early concept pencil sketch for V&A Dundee by Kengo Kuma went for £1,700.

Pieces from Zaha Hadid Design, Terry Farrell and Hawkins\Brown went for £1,600, £800 and £400 respectively.

A live auction brought in £66,750 and a further £40,000 was collected from a silent auction.

All the proceeds go to Article 25’s work to manage sustainable architecture projects in areas of extreme poverty and disaster.
