They’re here…Starbucks unveils holiday cups

It’s holiday time again at Starbucks Corp.

The coffee giant has unveiled its 2020 holiday cups, which will be available, along with seasonal beverages and food items, at stores in the U.S. and Canada starting November 6. As in past years, the cups come in four designs.

Starbucks first debuted its holiday cups in 1997 and, over the years, some of the designs have sparked controversy among critics on the right for not being Christmasy enough. Similar to the past couple of years, however, this year’s cup designs are unlikely to raise any sort of arguments. With a background of seasonal red and green hues, the cups are adorned with festive ribbons, snowflakes and dots. The theme of Starbuck’s holiday campaign, "Carry the Merry," is written on two of the cups.

“Our thought behind the cups this year was about people carrying them out in the world as messengers of joy,” said Jeff Wilkson, creative director for Starbucks. “In a way that message deepened as we got further and further into this year. We want to be that beacon for people, a brief moment that they can look forward to.”

For the third year, Starbucks will give away a collectible and reusable holiday cup on Nov. 6 to customers who order a holiday beverage at participating U.S. Starbucks stores. The company noted that the cup offer, which also applies to orders picked up in stores (including café, drive-thru and curbside) and through Starbucks Delivers, is available while supplies last, and quantities are limited.
