Today, decorated guitarist/vocalist Susan Tedeschi celebrates her 53rd birthday. The Grammy-winning artist is most notably known for her leading role in the Tedeschi Trucks Band, which she shares with her husband, Derek Trucks, though her career started as a solo artist.

Tedeschi attended Berklee College of Music, where she sang in the gospel choir and graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree in musical composition and performance at the age of 20. She formed the Susan Tedeschi Band in 1993, and within the next decade, opened up for B.B. King, The Allman Brothers Band, John Mellencamp, Taj Mahal, Bob Dylan, and more. Eventually, after meeting Derek and forming a relationship beyond music, they merged their bands in 2010 to create one of the best touring rock and blues groups today, the Tedeschi Trucks Band.

Back in 2017, Tedeschi Trucks Band had a three-night run in Chicago at the Chicago Theatre. Following one of the performances, the leading couple of TTB made their way over to Legends to sneak up on the legend himself, Buddy Guy.

Much to the delight of the fans in attendance, Buddy Guy introduced the musicians by saying some good friends dropped by “unexpectedly,” explaining that he knew Tedeschi before he even met Trucks back in the day. “When you come to Legends, you don’t know what you’re gonna get,” said Buddy Guy in their introduction. “We’re gonna jam the f–k out,” he said with a smile.

The band then dropped into Muddy Waters‘ “She’s Nineteen Years Old” and took the staple blues jam on a fifteen-minute ride. The sit-in ended with Tedeschi reaching around Mr. Buddy Guy and shredding a few licks on his patented polka-dot guitar.

While the full video of the performance has been taken down, the venue shared a pro-shot video of the evening’s highlight, check it out below!
