Police seek suspect in hate-motivated assault

Ottawa police are seeking public assistance in locating a suspect in relation to a hate motivated assault May 26th.

Police said a couple were sitting on a bench, speaking Arabic, on the 200 block of Sparks Street at about 11:15 a.m. when a woman walked behind them and struck the woman on the side of the head with her purse.

The suspect then walked away yelling racial slurs at them in English.

The suspect is described as Caucasian in her late 50s, five feet four inches (163 cm) tall, with a medium build, with short, curly black-and-grey curly hair.

At the time of the assault, she was wearing black shoes, a dark coloured dress, a deep purple jacket and a black purse.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call the hate and bias crime unit at 613-236-1222, ext. 5015.
