Scholarship History

On November 20, 2009, AHP created the ‘Dessalines & Capois Professional Scholarship’ at a Fundraiser commemorating the 206th Anniversary Celebration of the Battle of Vertières hosted at the Embassy of the Republic of Haiti, Washington, DC.

The concept was born out of the idea that through scholarship we can honor our heritage and continue to fight and stand against all adversity, while at the same time creating pathways for progress that significantly impact the Haitian community.  Accordingly, the Scholarship is named after two historical figures that have long stood as beacons of courage and bravery for their contributions to the Battle of Vertières, which was the last major battle of the war for Haitian Independence, and the final part of the Haitian Revolution.

More recently, AHP has undertaken to reposition the Scholarship program as a centerpiece of our mission and commitment to educational and professional advancement of all Haitians. Accordingly, AHP aims to establish a sustainable Scholarship Endowment Fund and, moving forward, issue annual awards to continue our support of members of the community both in the US and in Haiti.
