Join us for International Women's Day at The Pankhurst Centre! We've got a day packed with fantastic things to do, see and hear!

We'll be in-conversation during the afternoon with the creators of the rather fabulous First In The Fight as they launch their brilliant book about inspirational women who helped to make Manchester the radical city we know and love! So get your questions ready for author and cover designer, Helen Antrobus and Jane Bowyer!

And unleash your own creativity in a fun drop-in flag-making workshop during the morning run by one of the book's illustrators, the Small Fry Collective!

We'll also be joined by the awesome She Choir, who'll be singing a special lunch-time set of songs by and about amazing women!

And, of course, come and walk in the footsteps of the incredible women who changed history, here in the house where the suffragette movement began.

What a fitting way to celebrate International Women's Day!

  • Drink & Draw: In Celebration of International Women's Day

*****This event is now SOLD OUT******

We're excited to be hosting this fab drink-and-draw session at The Pankhurst Centre as part of our celebrations for International Women's Day this year!

Join artist Venessa Scott at this creative workshop, and make a collaborative piece of art inspired by her awesome Trafford House mural.

Grab a drink and a paintbrush and try out different artistic techniques, under Venessa's expert guidance.

You'll think about how icons and symbols can represent women, and use these to create a piece of feminist art, using a variety of materials, from markers and paint to ink, felt and collage.

You'll also have the chance to find out about Venessa's iconic Trafford House mural, one of the UK's biggest murals, which was commissioned to celebrate the 100-year anniversary of some women getting the vote in 2018.

The amazing artwork celebrates the spirit of the suffragettes, including our own Sylvia Pankhurst, who was born close to where Trafford House now stands. The city's Pankhurst legacy, the suffragette colours of green, white and purple, and the suffragette campaign banners all helped to inspire the vibrant mural, which overlooks Old Trafford.

Please join us to meet Venessa and celebrate your inspirational woman with art inspired by her amazing mural!

Tickets are £12 (including a drink and all materials). You can book tickets through Eventbrite.

    About Venessa:

Venessa Scott is a prolific public artist from the North of England with a decorated career in community arts and education, and is a Pankhurst Trust Ambassador. Venessa has several years' experience of working with national art galleries and curating exhibitions for undergraduate design students. In 2015 Venessa Scott along with her sister Vanice Scott founded SevenThreeOne: an arts and education non-profit that utilises the creative industries to further the education and skills of serving prisoners, ex-offenders and disengaged young people.

In June 2019 Venessa designed and painted one of the UKs tallest murals. The mural is 38m tall and was commissioned by a national property company to mark the 100 year anniversary of women's suffrage. The design was created to reflect the principle of unity. It links directly to the pioneering work of Sylvia Pankhurst, The Women's Social And Political Union and drew inspiration from the campaign banners created by its members as well as the creativity of Sylvia Pankhurst herself. When creating the mural Venessa aimed to produce a tapestry of icons and designs that would enliven its surroundings, start conversations, and inspire people. The completed mural was well received locally and nationally and continues to feature heavily in media packages across UK.
