SIGN THE PLEDGE: Support and pray for Archbishop Viganò. Sign the pledge here.

January 16, 2018 (LifeSiteNews) – Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò, the former Apostolic Nuncio to the United States, turns 78 years old today.

Born in northern Italy, Archbishop Viganò was ordained to the priesthood in 1968. He spent the next several decades working in the Vatican’s diplomatic corps. In April of 1992, he was consecrated archbishop by Pope John Paul II, who appointed him papal ambassador to Nigeria.

Before exposing widespread sexual abuse in the Catholic Church in 2018, Archbishop Viganò served as Secretary General of the Vatican City Governatorate from 2009 until 2011. Pope Benedict then asked him to serve as nuncio to the United States, a post he held until April 2016.

Archbishop Viganò’s courageous statements exposing the presence of homosexual networks in the Church’s hierarchy and the cover-up of the Theodore McCarrick abuse by senior prelates have drawn the ire of some of the most prominent liberal cardinals and bishops in the Church.

Yet the typically anti-Catholic mainstream media has largely ignored his bombshell testimonies.

Despite the vicious, sometimes personal attacks launched against him, Archbishop Viganò has remained steadfast in maintaining the veracity of his allegations. Many bishops in the United State have vouched for his character. And more than 80 U.S. bishops support an investigation into his claims.

Archbishop Viganò says he went public with what he knew because he wants to “discharge [his] conscience before God of [his] responsibilities as bishop of the universal Church.”

“I am an old man and I want to present myself to God with clean conscience,” he said.

Archbishop Viganò’s episcopal motto is Scio cui credidi, Latin for “I know him in whom I have believed.” In his recent letter to Theodore McCarrick, urging him to publicly repent so as to save his soul, Archbishop Viganò showed forth the supernatural love of Christ, who as a shepherd of souls seeks out the lost sheep.

Today, on his 78th birthday, show your support and gratitude for His Excellency’s courageous defense of the Bride of Christ and his willingness to lay down his own life for the salvation of souls.
