The members of the Sderot Educators' Kibbutz are answering the communities' needs.
Between barrages of rockets and the IDF's retaliation, the kibbutz members are working hard to support the communities of the western Negev.
As soon as they realized that school is cancelled, they organized arts and crafts activities in shelters in two areas in Sderot, which drew out many families, some of whom brought snacks and helped out in organizing. Some families stayed at home, so kibbutz members started making house visits, to meet and talk.
Nitzan, a Kibbutz member: "There was a lot of tension, but also a thirst for togetherness, for playing together. The last barrage started just as everybody got back home. I hope it made everyone feel that we are together in this. The fact that we managed to go out and play before it got worse made me feel better.
The official definition by all government institutions is "a return to routine" and the emergency has ended for now. But the hard part is still ahead – going back to life, picking up the pieces. We feel this in our daily encounter with children, youth and parents in the neighborhood. We know that especially now, when we are back to routine, we must strengthen our resilience and continue to act to strengthen the community."
Dror Israel operates in Sderot during both routine and emergency, to strengthen community resilience in the framework of "neighborhood-building groups." We set up groups of residents from children to the elderly, who work to strengthen solidarity in the neighborhood and to develop shared answers for the existing needs from the bottom up.

If you want to help the residents of Sderot in an emergency and in routine, you are welcome to support our activities here.
