There are plenty of opportunities to get into the supernatural spirit this Halloween in and Staffordshire.

It’s the spookiest time of the year and with autumn already well underway we’ve looked around for some of the most ghoulish events we could find.

We've come up with a ghostly list of the biggest events in the county - plus a few more not too far away.

Whether you're searching for an opportunity to test your nerve or display your best costumes, this Halloween you'll be spoilt for choice.

There's something for everyone, but only if you're brave enough!

  1. Scarefest at Alton Towers

    Alton Towers is once again going to be home to Halloween in 2018.

    The popular Halloween attraction is back, with organisers promising a "bigger and scarier than ever" event this year.

    Rides will be open until 9pm, meaning Scarefest fanatics will be able to ride the rollercoasters in the dark.

    And this will be the first Halloween where thrill-seekers will be able to ride the Wicker Man, new to the park for this year, where they will hurtle towards the six-storey tall effigy and gape as it bursts into flames.

    There is also a brand new scare maze to try out, ‘Project 42’ adding to the award-winning abundance of terrifying mazes and attractions.

    And for the little monsters, the freaky four has become the freaky five this year, with the addition of brand new character, Gretyl the witch. Young families can enjoy the different shows, including the brand new CBeebies Monster Ball.

  2. Halloween Ball at Conkers

    Does an evening of frights sound alright, then join the Conkers Halloween Ball for adults only on Saturday, October 27.

    Arrive to a glass of Halloween Punch and indulge yourself in our devilish buffet, dance the night away to the tunes of Thriller & the Monster Mash with the resident DJ.

    If you are feeling brave, catch a ride on our Ghost Train then take a wander down to the Haunted Woods, full of spooky goings on! Will you return?

  3. Creepy Crawly Trails at Sudbury Hall

    Explore the garden and hunt for the hidden Halloween decorations between October 27 and November 4 (10am-5pm).

    Sid the Sudbury Spider has hidden some of our Halloween decorations in webs around the grounds! Can you help to find them? Count how many spiders you can spot in a self-led trail around the grounds. Wrap up warm and get ready to hunt high and low.

  4. Ghost Tour of Lichfield

    For five days this October, you can take a guided ghost tour of Lichfield, exploring its bloody and grisly past.

    You will see the Guildhall Cells where prisoners stayed before facing the gallows and hunt for phantoms in the Cathedral, Eramus Darwin house and other places around the city.

    The tour (October 17, 23, 24, 30 and 31) finishes at one of Lichfield’s historic pubs with a sausage roll and a warm glass of mulled wine.

  5. Murder Mystery Evening at the Museum of Cannock Chase

    If any adults are in the mood to solve a horrific murder, Fired up Theatre are presenting ‘The Killing of Mexican Joe’, a murder mystery evening on October 20 (7.30pm-10pm) at the Museum of Cannock Chase.

    Tickets (£15) come with a cup of tea or coffee and a jacket potato supper (you may bring your own alcoholic drink).

  6. Halloween Evening at Tamworth Castle

    Tamworth Castle is holding a Children’s Halloween Evening on October 27 (5pm-8pm) for all the family.

    Feel free to dress up in your best Halloween costume and experience the ghostly goings-on within the castle walls. Children three years and over will get a free pumpkin lantern with their ticket.

    Tickets cost £8 (children £6, senior citizens £6.50) and are available by calling 01827 709618.

  7. ScreamFest at Burton

    For a terrifying Halloween experience, ScreamFest in Tatenhill is holding five main events for visitors to be spooked by.

    They include ‘Dia de los Muertos’ in the maize maze and ‘Demonica’ set in the pitch black. ScreamFest also features extreme performers, paintball, a live DJ and more.

    The experience is not recommended for anyone below the age of 12 and under-14s will not be admitted without an adult present. Ticket prices also depend on the days booked.

    The events will be held October 27-31 from 7pm-11pm. Tickets cost £19.50-£25 plus 50p booking fee. Click here to book.

  8. Halloween at Drayton Manor

    Drayton Manor Theme Park is promising to give more treat than trick this Halloween with a wide variety of eerie Halloween activities and entertainment coming to the theme park to spook families of all ages.

    Activities run from October 20 to November 1 (10am-5pm weekdays and 10.30am-5pm weekends) and cost £25. Click here for tickets.

  9. Pumpkin and Produce Trail at Shugborough

    For October half-term, the Shugborough Estate will be celebrating the harvest with a Pumpkin and Produce Trail.

    Seasonal recipes will be available in the tea-rooms for children and their families to enjoy.

    Sturdy footwear and warm clothing is advised during opening times as the trail can get quite muddy!

    Events run from October 27 to November 4 (10am-4pm) and tickets costing £14 (£7.50 children) are available from Shugborough Estate’s information desk.

  10. Twilight Walk at the National Memorial Arboretum

    Back by popular demand, the National Memorial Arboretum is offering a sunset guided 5km walk around the Arboretum on October 20 (from 5pm).

    The Alrewas site is huge and centrally located on the edge of Staffordshire with over 330 memorials within the woodland.

    Watch the sunset and celebrate the spooky Halloween spirit with this night-time walk around the woods.

  11. Circus of Loffs in Cannock

    If the circus puts you in the Halloween spirit, you will be excited to hear that Doreen’s Circus of Loffs is coming to the Prince of Wales Theatre. Doreen will explore the history of the circus and provide a peek into Victorian freak shows.

    Doreen with also include a hilarious look at the Westminster circus and some of the clowns who try to run the country.

    You can celebrate the 250th anniversary of the circus and its association with all things ghoulish by buying tickets to the Circus of Loffs. The show contains adult humour suitable for ages 16 plus.
