Venom Screenwriter Confirms a Sequel is Happening

The screenwriter for Venom has revealed that a sequel is in development, though he won't be writing it.

Following an impressive international box office haul that surpassed the domestic take, fans eagerly awaited news about Sony's Venom sequel. Well, now it's official and we know for sure that Tom Hardy's Eddie Brock will be back for round two with his alien symbiote.

Speaking with Discussing Film, Jeff Pinkner, one of Venom's screenwriters, confirmed the follow-up was taking place, but he couldn't reveal any details so far in these early stages.

"I can't say anything other than that it is happening," said Pinkner. However, when asked if he's set to write the sequel, he responded in the negative, although that could change in the future as more details roll out regarding production. "I am not. As of now, I am not."

Despite negative reviews from critics, the film outdid its estimated United States box office haul, grossing more than $850 million worldwide, with China's love for the movie giving it momentum and sparking talk of expanding the franchise. The film set up a sequel with a promising post-credits scene, debuting Woody Harrelson as Cletus Kasady, who goes on to become Carnage in the comics.

Directed by Ruben Fleischer, Venom Stars Tom Hardy, Michelle Williams, Riz Ahmed, Scott Haze, Reid Scott, Jenny Slate, Woody Harrelson, Sope Aluko, Scott Deckert, Marcella Bragio and Michelle Lee. The film will arrive on digital HD on Dec. 11, with a Blu-ray release on Dec. 18.
