Time-lapse: Asian giant hornet queen building a nest over 3 days

Description Angle down icon An icon in the shape of an angle pointing down.

YouTube channel Insects Sniper has captured time-lapse footage an Asian giant hornet queen building her nest over a three-day period.

The nest is made from chewed wood and saliva which gives it a paper-like look. Unlike with bees, the queen hornet builds the nest on her own.

Asian hornets are known for their fearless behaviour and have been known to attack entire bee colonies.

The hornets have stingers which are around 1/4 of an inch long and they can use them to sting multiple times.

Watch this video to see how the queen builds her nest.
