Stella McCartney is usually not one to look at her own heritage as inspiration for her collection. But as her father’s iconic band’s “Yellow Submarine” animated movie hit its 50th anniversary, she couldn’t’ help but feel inspired by her father and his colleagues’ timeless musical work and their ever-relevant lyrics. For her Pre-Fall 2019 collection, it’s no surprise, then, that she referenced her own family history. Obvious nods to the animated film came in the colorful looks, printed with the psychedelic imagery the cartoon was known for all those decades ago. But this was only one part of the line. Other ensembles harkened back to Linda McCartney‘s bohemian and romantic style, translated here into pleated midi-dresses and billowy silhouettes. Her father, the great Paul McCartney, was also present with the more tailored-pieces, particularly the wool separates that’d be great to wear for work. This was probably the most personal of all of McCartney’s latest collections, and what a powerful message to send in this day and age. “All You Need is Love!”
