Furnace runs continuously
- Possible causes:
  - Thermostat is not set correctly or not working (check batteries).
  - Dirty air filter.
  - Air ducts are leaking.
  - Refrigerant is low and/or leaking.
  - Dirty or frozen evaporator coils.
  - Furnace unit is not sized properly for conditioned area.
Short cycling (Furnace frequently turns on and off)
- Possible causes:
  - Dirty air filter Evaporator coils are iced over or need cleaning.
  - Electrical problems.
  - Furnace system is not sized properly for size of conditioned area.
  - Refrigerant is low and/or leaking.
System runs but air is not warm
- Possible causes:
  - Thermostat is set incorrectly.
  - Improper venting; make sure all vents are open and directed correctly.
  - Dirty air filter (replace monthly).
  - Refrigerant could be low or leaking.
  - Air ducts are leaking.
  - Condenser needs cleaning.
  - Condenser fan is not working.
  - Compressor is bad.
Poor air flow to rooms
- Possible causes:
  - Dirty air filter (replace monthly).
  - Improper venting; make sure all vents are open and directed correctly.
  - Air leaking from duct work.
  - Furnace system is not sized properly for size of conditioned area.
Some areas too hot or some too cold
- Possible causes:
  - Improper venting; make sure all vents are open and directed correctly.
  - Air leaking from duct work.
  - Exterior building air leaks in affected area.
System makes loud or unusual noises
- Possible causes:
  - Drain line is clogged.
  - Refrigerant is leaking.
  - Outside condenser fan is impaired or obstructed.
  - Condenser motor is failing.
  - Inside blower fan belt needs adjusting or replacing.
  - Electrical wiring issues.
Signs of water or moisture damage
- Possible causes:
  - Around vents:
    - Inadequate insulation surrounding air ducts.
  - Around air handler:
    - Drain pan is leaking.
    - Drain line is blocked.
    - Float switch is faulty.
    - Evaporator coils are iced over or need cleaning.
    - Dirty air filter.
  - Around condenser:
    - Drain hole is blocked.
    - Refrigerant is leaking.
Refrigerant leak
- Possible causes:
  - Cracks or holes in the lines carrying the refrigerant.
  - Worn or damaged seals around valves.
  - Metal corrosion.
Drainage problems
- Possible causes:
  - Drain pan is leaking.
  - Drain line is blocked.
  - Float switch is not working.
  - Frozen evaporator coils cause excess condensation.
