Barcelona announced on Monday afternoon that they were withdrawing their support for LaLiga Santander's plans to host this season's league fixture between Girona and the current champions in Miami.

The Blaugrana felt there was a lack of consensus across the board and now those at LaLiga Santander have released a statement to confirm that the fixture will not take place abroad.

"We want to congratulate Barcelona and Girona for their willingness to be pioneers," one part of the statement read.

"We said from the start that participation was voluntary and, if Barcelona are expressing their desire to not take part, then this match that was planned for Miami will not be able to be held on the associated date.

"We are sorry, of course, for the disappointment this could cause our fans in the USA.

"We want to tell all of them that LaLiga will hold an official match in the USA as soon as possible."

The statement also pointed out that the league's governing body would continue with their legal battle with other footballing authorities to allow matches to be held outside of Spain, although they'll remove reference to this specific fixture.
