Matt Waldman’s RSP Boiler Room No.193: RB Devine Ozigbo (Nebraska)

Matt Waldman’s RSP Boiler Room showcases the patience, hip mobility, footwork, acceleration, and hands of 2019 NFL Draft prospect Devine Ozigbo of Nebraska.

Mike Anderson and Michael Turner come to mind when I watch Devine Ozigbo play football. Ozigbo has the size, down-hill power, and acceleration of these two former NFL Pro-Bowl backs. He also possesses the hip mobility, footwork, and processing expertise of a good zone runner.

What do these things look like on film? After spending 10 minutes watching below, you’ll have a clearer idea of how to recognize it.

Note: Ozibgo is not the runner in the second play on this tape. He does not bounce the run to the corner. I misidentified him. Still, I’ve seen him showcase NFL-caliber acceleration on other plays.

Ozigbo has the skills and athletic ability to become a productive NFL starter. Because there is a glut of starter talent in the NFL, a lot of fans and fantasy writers classify backs as “somebodies and nobodies.”

If you want to find talents before the water cooler crowd gives its stamp of approval, don’t be that way. You’ll miss on the subtleties of the position when you’re depending so heavily on draft capital as a means of classifying them.
