A teenager was shot in White Plains during a rainy evening commute, White Plains Public Safety Commissioner David Chong said.

A single shot ripped through the arm of a 19-year-old New Rochelle man while he was engaged in a brawl with the shooter near Mamaroneck and Martine avenues around 4:45 p.m., Chong said.

The shooting victim is being treated at a local hospital, and his wound is not life-threatening.

Detectives interviewed a handful of witnesses and collected surveillance footage from the area. Witnesses said the suspect, who's described as a black man wearing a black-and-white hoodie, ran south down Mamaroneck Avenue and disappeared in the area of Quarropos Avenue, Chong said.

The busy intersection where the shooting happened is about a block away from the Westchester County building and a couple blocks away from City Center. The area is lined on both sides of the street with banks, shops, restaurants and bars with New York City-like car and bus traffic driving through the nearby street.

The incident is still under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call the White Plains Police Department at (914) 422-6111. All calls can remain confidential.
