EPUD Becomes First Electric Utility To Capitalize On The Oregon Clean Fuels Program

(Alec Cowan/KLCC)

The Emerald People’s Utility District cut the ribbon on six new electric vehicle charging stations in Eugene today.

EPUD installed six public electric vehicle charging stations outside their office as part of a credit from the Oregon Clean Fuels Program.

EPUD has kept their carbon intensity lower than the set standard for the year. Because of this they accrued credits they then sold and purchased the stations with. EPUD is the first utility service to sell credits under the program.

Kristen Sheeran is with the Governor’s Office and touts EPUD’s investment as a big step in the fuels program:

"Transportation as you may know it’s the single largest source of emission in Oregon, and the transition to cleaner fuels including electricity for transportation is an important part of our state strategy to reduce emissions."

The Oregon Clean Fuels Program aims to decrease travel emissions by 10 percent over ten years. Sheeran says the program has already reduced emissions by over 1 million metric tons.
