Builder Avex Homes has started work to cut off four feet from an existing new home it built. The foundation has been cut on the inside of the home and back patio.

The homebuilder is trying to fix an embarrassing blunder in Pasco County’s Avalon Park West in Wesley Chapel.

The house is less than 6 feet from the neighbor’s home.

No one with the builder or the county realized there was a problem until the next door neighbors brought it to their attention. Seth and Rachel Vermillion said they were told the house just “seemed too close,” but was fine.

It took Seth Vermillion measuring the home’s distance himself to convince the county to make the builder stop constructing the home. By then, the house was mostly built.

Pasco County requires at least 10 feet between the two houses.

Avex Homes says it’ll build a new exterior wall on the inside of the home and then cut off the excess and cart it away with a crane.

Rooms will be redesigned, and the home will lose about 200 square feet. As concerned as Rachel is about living next to this, she said she’s happy to finally see some action.
