President Donald Trump kicked off his Mar-a-Lago weekend with a tour on Lake Okeechobee to take a closer look at the deteriorating Herbert Hoover Dike. The Trump administration has a budget of $63 million for repairs. Both Democrats and Republicans agree that amount of money is insufficient to fix the dike’s infrastructure. The commander and chief arrived on Marine One around 12:40 p.m. Awaiting his arrival were supporters, many hoping to capture that moment, a wave from the president. And he did, before he was off to tour Lake Okeechobee with U.S. Sens. Marco Rubio and Rick Scott, Gov. Ron Desantis and U.S. Rep. Brian Mast. “It’s an incredible lake, but it’s had problems,” Trump said as he spoke in front of a small group. Meanwhile, Trump supporters like Sherri Dulaney talked about the aging Herbert Hoover Dike. “I live in Belle Glade, I have for all of my life, and if it were to break during the storm it would be devastating,” Dulaney said. The biggest voices were from Trump’s youngest supporters, members of Future Farmers of America. The group of high school students wore “Make Lake O Great Again” hats and signs with the letters, “WELCOME TO MUCK CITY."By 1:50 p.m., the president boarded Marine One and left to fly back to Palm Beach.
