Education sector to recover 669.329million from public service reforms

The Executive Chairman of Post Primary Schools Board, Bayelsa State, Dr. Asiam Blessing Ikuru, says the Education board under her leadership will realise a gross total savings of #666.329million per annum if the recommendations from committees set-up by her board is implemented.

Dr. Blessing Ikuru made the disclosure in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, saying the board under her watch has introduced a result oriented control system that had helped to reduced the wage bill of the board to 594.153million as at the month of August, 2018, adding that the board inherited a wage bill of 609.315 naira.

According to her,  the Board realized a total sum of 15.161million naira from the continue exercise of checking of all necessary books such as retirees and death cases in the State.

Dr. Blessing Ikuru said the committees set-up by the board codenamed "Salary Grade Levels and Steps Regularization Committee, SGLSRC, Over Aged Staff Verification Committee, OASVC" have achieved tremendously in the area of falsification of records in terms of under declaration of age and audition of salary grade levels as part of public reforms measures put in place by the restoration government to reposition the education sector in the State.

She noted that a preliminary findings recorded by the duo committees revealed that Bayelsa State has about 189 schools,  zonal board and board headquarters with a staff strength of 5,980. She said if the audit report submitted to board duly implemented, the board will be making a savings of #36.364million.

While noting that the  board has voluntarily retired 114 staff who were absent from just conducted verification exercise conducted in the State.

She commended the restoration government under the leadership of Hon. Henry Seriake Dickson for ensuring that staff are properly placed in their rightful positions and laid a good foundation for a prosperous State Civil Service to strive, in the State.

Dr. Ikuru noted that the board is resolute in its resolve to pursue and achieve the full implementation of the public service reforms by eliminating payroll fraud in-line with the vision of the Restoration Governor.
