In June, the Trump administration released a 161-page draft rule that many say would essentially shut down the United States asylum system. The regulations would impose harsh restrictions on who can qualify for asylum and could have severe effects on LGBTQ asylum seekers. Katie Sgarro and Hans How of AsylumConnect—which helps LGBTQ asylum seekers access safe services in the US—are urging the public to fight these regulations by submitting a public comment before the deadline: July 15th at 11:59 pm eastern time. AsylumConnect partner, Immigration Equality has created templates that make submitting a comment easy to do.
