BALD HEAD ISLAND, NC (WECT) - A female minor suffered a non-life-threatening wound after being bitten by what is believed to be a juvenile shark Sunday morning in Bald Head Island.

The 911 center received a call at about 10:30 a.m. that someone had suffered what appeared to be a shark bite near Beach Access 42.

According to dispatch logs, the female victim was on a sand bar when she was bitten on her calf, and her father was able to bring her back to the beach strand.

She was transported the New Hanover Regional Medical Center for treatment.

According to Village Manager Chris McCall, first responders assessed the it was likely a juvenile shark that bit the victim "given the type of wound sustained, which was non-life threatening."

McCall said that since the victim is a minor he is prohibited from releasing her name or other specific details from the incident.
