As Twitchy reported Sunday, police officers were caught on video arresting a woman selling churros in the New York City subway. Eventually, the woman was handcuffed and her cart seized as evidence. According to Gothamist, this elderly woman is a repeat offender.
Kat Timpf wrote a piece in National Review arguing that the law should be changed so that no one is handcuffed for selling churros.
Stories like this serve as evidence against the common misconception that a limited-government philosophy amounts to a cruel disregard (or even outright hatred) for those who are struggling. Sometimes the best way for the government to help those in need is for it to do LESS. https://t.co/qy3oQXLT9U

The public’s sympathy seems to lie with the churro lady, but former presidential candidate and New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio backed up the cops (for once). For a guy who says New York is a sanctuary city, he didn’t have any wiggle room for an unlicensed subway vendor.

To be fair, they were semi-automatic assault churros

However, if she was shooting up, and taking a dump on the platform… that would have been okay.

How did the compassionate mountain get so little presidential traction, truly amazing.

Mr Mayor, did bringing in the cops relieve the congestion?

Are there no, like…murders to solve in NYC

I’ve been saying for years that the unlawful sale of fried cylindrical cinnamon flavored treats is the biggest problem facing NYC right now. Thank God this menace is finally being addressed.

Terrible. His whole focus is on normalizing that vending is improper. Nothing about creating safe places for people to make money from vending or a broader vision of economic inclusion for new immigrants.
— Alex S. Vitale (@avitale) November 11, 2019
If this is his definition of a "Sanctuary City," where immigrant women and women of color have to live in constant harassment while Hudson Yards gets a pass to everything, then I'm glad that I'm away from his city.

Having used the NYC subway many times, I think that I can safely say that the cause of congestion in the subway has nothing to do with a woman selling her homemade churros.

Yeah between churro-sellers in the subway and loose cigarette vendors on the street, New Yorkers are living in a goddamn warzone. How do people survive?
I hear there’s an epidemic of violent sandwich-eaters in San Francisco too.
Stay vigilant, NYC+SF!

We’re glad to see the mayor supporting the police, but we’re awfully glad his sham run for president is over.
